  2. There isn't much that draws an honest man to a place like Wrecker's Reach. Once a well-known port under a name no one remembers, it was a hub for lucrative trade in colonial wares and a warm shelter for those crossing the great oceans. Now it's just another stinking hole, like all the others I've been scratching out a living in. The ale is poor, a knife awaits you down every dark alley, and the rich folk have long since abandoned their crumbling residences to petty barons. Imagine my surprise, then, when I saw a grand merchant ship arriving in the dark of night. It's anyone's guess what brought it here, and more importantly what lies in its cargo hold, but I intend to be the first to find out. Not that this will be easy, though: a vessel like this will be sure to draw plenty of attention, and I've made something of a name for myself around here, so I'll have to be cautious the moment I step out into the open. Well then, it seems holing up at these wretched docks is finally paying off. Notes This is a standalone harbour mission set in Wrecker's Reach, taking a smaller section of a former Crucible campaign map as its starting point. My stated aim with this one was to create something a little simpler than what I did previously, with most of the weight on exploration and looting. Simply an unexpected nighttime excursion in a locale that hasn't been visited before. 3. There are rumors that a legendary ruby, the Heart of Saint Mattis, actually exists. Break into the the Northgate Cathedral, find it, and steal it. Background This is my second Dark Mod mission (Mission of Mercy was the first). This is a small-medium mission, with some extras. See below for hints. My wife just gave me an idea for mission number three, so look for that next year. I notice that Dragofer just released a mission today. I hope I'm not violating an unwritten protocol by releasing another mission on the same day. Download The mission is available in the in-game downloader. As well as here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jah5svj5eagnhs8/heartstmattis.pk4?dl=1. (<-- NEW LINK. Per grayman's request, the name of the pk4 and map have been changed). Place the PK4 in your \fms folder. TDM will recognize it as a new mission. I18n I have not done the work required for internationalization. OpenAL EFX This mission uses it (version 2), so I recommend turning it on in the Audio Settings. Thanks Many thanks to the beta testers, who really helped me get this mission into shape: Cambridge Spy, Shadow, Jedi_Wannabe (who also did some performance work on the map), SuaveSteve Thanks to Mike and Chloe for their outstanding voice work! The cathedral in this mission was inspired in many ways by bikerdude's excellent St. Albans Cathedral. I haven't played all of the DM missions, but to me St. Albans is the gold standard of cathedrals. Music includes Cantus Firmus Monks by Doug Maxwell/Media Right Productions (royalty free) The video series by Springheel and Sotha were helpful and energizing. Thanks to the entire Dark Mod community for building an amazing project. Hints and Tips (warning: contains progressive spoilers)

  4. There's an entire subgenre of slow and/or acoustic versions of "Smells like teen spirit": 01, 02. But my favourite has always been this version of "Come as you are" by Polish band Pink Freud:

  5. That isn't really the same thing. A glare light illuminates geometry within its volume, like any other kind of light (apart from a fog light set to paint on its own boundary too). Where there's no geometry there's nothing to illuminate. The flare deforms add a glow around the lamp independent of whether it's illuminating anything behind it; other candidates would be a tube deform (I got unsatisfactory results) or a particle effect. By the way, glare2 has the noshadows keyword anyway, blendLights are non-shadowasting by default (in fact, forceShadows seemed not to work on them when I tried it), I don't think blendlights perform specular interactions (it's just a blend add stage), and as far as I know nodiffuse doesn't actually work. Nice-looking screenshot though.

  6. Hi all, First off let me say that TDM has renewed my faith in gaming at a time where bloated, soulless open world/multiplayer gaming seems to have taken over. There's real passion behind each level released, not a whole bunch of filler added in by devs working death-shift hours. This, the numerous S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Skyrim mods are pretty much all I play now. The only small suggestion I would have, if it hasn't been suggested a million times already, is perhaps getting a Moorish/Middle-Eastern setting going. The whole 1001 nights context would be an open pallette to explore. I personally can't wait to sneak around some Sultan's palace or some long forgotten tomb in the desert. Just my 2 cents. Anyways, keep up the great work all! Cheers, g0kud0

  7. Thanks krrg and Goldwell, I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed the mission as much as you did! Hehe, it looks like my missions have a tendency of playing out that way, even if it's not intentional.

  8. Wow, Joebarnin, that was a great mission. There's a lot going on here and it was fun to explore every little nook and cranny. I found 3353 loot and 3 of 6 secrets: I was able to complete all of the optional objectives except for finding all of the loot. This was one of the harder missions to figure out how to unlock everything, but there were plenty of clues if you took the time to look. I felt kind of bad... Thank you very much for taking the time to create this FM. I know how much work you mappers put into them, and I truly appreciate it ?

  10. NICE starting cutscene! Perfect music and audio propagation (EFX reverb!) Very good voice acting! And the classic Thief "objective update" sound ?

  12. Sorry for being blunt but glow around these lamps looks rather bad. I've been trying to find a suitable effect myself, and IMO you'd be better off with something like light that has fogs/glare2 texture and noshadows/nodiffuse/nospecular set to 1:

  13. And above is one of the reasons/examples why I created our installer. More info see: http://www.thedarkmod.com/downloads/ @darkness_falls: Please run my installer, this will set its permissions for other files too. Just point the installer it to the folder tdm folder. (it doesnt overwrite stuff)
