  1. Thanks, I'll have a look. I'm writing a steampunk novel at the moment so I'm looking for something to get me 'in the mood'!
  2. Thanks, Bikerdude for your help. WS1 was the first one I downloaded and played! I'll give WS2 a go. Let me know if you can think of any others. Edit: Ooh, yes, this is exactly what I was looking for! Good stuff.
  3. Just downloaded TDM for the first time - I had forgotten about this mod! Nice to see it's now going strong with a good choice of missions. Does anyone have any suggestions for good steampunk-themed missions? I.e industrial, robots and machinery. Those I've downloaded so far based on suggestions above all seem to be medieval-themed.
  4. Haven't followed the game's development, but just read a few reviews - sounds awful. Thief in name only. Onwards and upwards TDM.

    Baby Garrett?

My kids have all been KO'd by a passing thief...

    Baby Garrett?

The mission could be called... 'The Cradle'! I'm sure that name hasn't been used before...

    Baby Garrett?

This game, 'Among the Sleep', seems like a nice idea: 'Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child. After being put to bed at night, mystical things will happen.' From wat I can see in the above video, the idea of crawling around as a vulnerable baby in a world of giants seems to add an extra element of tepridation to the game. I wonder if it might be a good idea to create a Dark Mod mission from the point of view of an infant? A prequel starring 'Baby Garrett' perhaps?
  8. Always! What was that all about anyway? To constantly evolve mods need new people coming to work on them all the time. My worry is that as we move further away from the time Thief and Doom 3 were released, you're going to see less people showing an interest in working on the mod, either as FM makers or as part of the core team. I think sticking to a medieval/victorian setting makes sense even if they were not trying to ape Thief. It's a game about sneaking around in shadows, it wouldn't make as much sense in a modern setting where theft is more about smash and grab with a gun or computer hacking. It's up to the FM makers to do what they like with the assets created by the mod makers. They can stick to the medieval/victorian setting or do their own thing.
  9. Here’s my input as an ‘outsider’. On a project like this you need to enjoy the work. If you do it for the plaudits you’re never going to be satisfied. The web is all about consuming, no one stops to say thank you. Even if someone does say thank you it’s a faceless person on the internet you’re never going to meet. I don’t think you should worry too much about the people over at TTLG. It’s been 14 years since Thief came out – half my lifetime. If you’re still playing Thief after all this time it means you’re obsessed with Thief, you don’t care about the crap graphics, and nothing else is going to draw you away from it. The Dark Mod needs to appeal to a new audience who never played Thief. I used to love Thief and Doom 3 but I’ve never downloaded and played the Dark Mod since the really early versions. Seven or six years ago the completed mod would have been a dream come true. But it’s been eight years since Doom 3 came out, and I’ve long since uninstalled it and lost the box. I haven’t played Thief in five years or so. The majority of those who were part of the Thief community back in 2004-05 will be in the same situation as me. From what I can see you’ve done a great job on this mod. You’ve actually finished it, which takes enormous dedication, and the quality is sky high. But if you don’t have a large community of mappers beavering away now, it’s probably not going to happen, is it? Thief and Doom 3 are just going to get older and older. If you still enjoy working on it, keep going. If you don’t, stop.
  10. That's a good point, I played with The Minimalist Project installed from the off and it made a big difference. Thanks for that. Also you had to exercise some self-restraint and try to play it as you would Thief 1&2, and ignore the 3rd person mode.
  11. Yes I think there was a bit of a bullying culture where people who liked that game were ostracised. It wasn't as good as T1 and T2 but it was still a pretty good game. I've come out of the closet - I'm a TDS fan and proud.
  12. I think it's just been too long since Thief came out. I'm a big fan of the game, but when it came out I was 13. When the Dark Mod started off I was at university. Now I'm 27 and have two kids. I think the original thief-generation has just grown up and have lost interest/don't have time to make missions, and as time goes on the hard-core that do is just going to be whittled down further.

    Thief 4

I'm not going to worry about it. Thief and Thief II exist and no one is going to take that away from us. If we want Thief with better graphics we've got the Dark Mod. Just let the developers do their own thing, even if they move away from the traditional thief gameplay and setting. It'll probably be a good but not fantastic game like DS was, but lightning rarely strikes twice, and when it does it usually doesn't return for a third and fourth helping. If the game looks good prior to release I'll get excited, but wasting four years worrying about how much like Thief II it's going to be is a waste of anyone's time.

    ttlg down

There's some down time while they rebrand to 77LG, in accordance with Thief's new leet makeover, and move to a new address.

    Thief 4

Is it too late to change the title of this project to The D4rk M0d?
  16. I was part of the project about 5 years ago and there were a lot of internal arguments back then... But then I left and the arguments stopped!
  17. Sounds good! Best of luck with the band in the future.
  18. You're not mistaken. You don't really need to be these days when you can just google it.
  19. It's a spoof website for a spoof film, but it's quite atmospheric.
  20. Can you tell if it's a boy or a girl? Congrats!
  21. I thought you were gone.
  22. No, I mean we actually pay for these programs to be made. They're broadcast in other countries, but along with adverts to pay their costs. Revenue from those adverts is pumped back into the BBC to create more shows for us. It'd hardly benifit us if other countries got programs paid for by the british tax payer for free, sans adverts, and we got nothing back for them.
  23. Hey, we're the ones paying the license fee.
  24. If you live in the UK you can watch an English documentary on the Eisteddfod here. I'm in it about two minutes in. Druid out.
