  1. When I look at the TDM banners they do not look anywhere as thin as this cloth. My impression of them is that they are a heavy cloth or a leather which would be much more difficult to climb up. You can even see through the cloth in the video.
  2. I agreee with most here but not with chains or banners (for the reason's Baddcog listed). In reality if you tried to climb a chain it would sway violently and make a lot of noise, probably pinch you too. The shape of chains, especially large make them very difficult to grasp, even when they're not hanging and even with gloves. This is not represented by climbing straight up a func_static in TDM. Also why are metal grids so low in the votes?
  3. You need to add a none option to the poll or else we can't tell how many people don't like any of them.
  4. This is annoying: This happens with a couple windows within windows. As you see in the pic the select sound window is open. It makes it impossible to save or exit the program normally, and you can't do anything else until you close this window. But this window is also hidden behind other windows which you cannot move or close such as the select entity window.
  5. If not, IIRC the Havoc engine is free now and could replace the existing physics engine. YES! Also the source code would possibly enable outside of Doom3 compilers (in the editor maybe) and an accurate lighted view in the editor.
  6. I recall there being interest in optimizing lighting and introducing various features such as smooth lighting. As for your question about what assets we could use, I'd assume that every asset no matter how insignificant would need to be replaced.
  7. Remaking Thief1 or 2 in TDM is ripping it off. What you are saying is the equivalent to saying, "my fake Rolex is a tribute to real Rolexes."
  8. Every bit of performance optimization helps. Definitely use seed.
  9. Thief 1 and 2 already run on modern systems. The only possible outcome of 'porting' these games to TDM is literally just enhanced graphics and the ability to knock over crates here and there. If people don't want to play thief because it's old, so be it. Thief exists purely for entertainment, by them not playing it we aren't losing anything. Also your likely only going to attract people from the existing Thief / TDM community to try the port anyways. Who else would buy Doom3 and install this mod for it? I'd be very interested to see how many people on this forum and even TTLG have never played Thief 1 or 2. I appreciate your passion and enthusiasm but I think ultimately this project would result in disappointment for the developers and community. I've kicked the idea around myself many times. But that effort should be placed into something new. Surely you could design a TDM campaign using your favorite game play elements transferred from T1 and T2 to a new game or work on a really good story for TDM instead of just out right copying the game.
  10. Maybe we should get a tutorial request thread going. I'd be interested in making some myself, but I don't know if I could stomach listening to my own voice haha. What software did you use to record btw?
  11. I tend to heavily rely on reviews or past experiences when buying games. For example I loved Fallout 3, so Fallout NV was a sure thing to get, or that I'll be getting the new Oblivion for sure. I also frequent many review sites when I'm thinking of buying a game, IGN, Gamespot, GamersHell or random Googled ones. Ironically one of my largest game purchasing regrets was Dragon Age. I haven't put much time into it, but it just isn't the sort of game I enjoy. I also didn't enjoy the newest Wolfenstein too much I guess, if I had listened to the reviews rather than rely on ID fanboyness I think I wouldn't had got it.
  12. I think you may be under estimating how hard it is to create a quality map, and how hard it will be to recreate the voices, AI, scripted sequences, new enemies etc. But if you were to set out to do that, that's fine by me. However I do not like that you contacted Eidos, and I hope you differentiated yourself in your email so they know you are NOT a member of the official TDM team.
  13. Using 1.6.1 I'm getting seemingly random crashes. Where can I get the log files to post so you guys can take a look at them? I know everyone is on vacation so I'm not holding my breath for a fix but I'd like to get the logs posted while I'm heavy into DR.
  14. Cool! It's interesting to hear your voice it's so different than what I thought Bikerdude, I was expecting American accent
  15. I agree. People tend to think updated graphics will bring back he first feelings they had playing the old games they loved, but it doesn't. The good times are over for good and we need new content
  16. Whoops double post, no delete post button?
  17. Piracy is not something to brag about. Even the jacked up prices of new games are relatively good prices when you think about the costs of other media such as movies and music. You can get a movie which is 1-2 hours long for 20 dollars in the theater or when it first goes to home video. A video game new tends to cost around $40-$60, but usually the minimum time for that game is ~10 hours of gameplay. Some like oblivion exceeded 300 hours for me but only cost $60 new. Price per hour of movie: $ 10 - 20 Price per hour of game : $ 4 - 6 minimum Price per hour of oblivion: $.20 The game industry is not ripping us off yet imo`. I think Kane and Lynch Dog Days showed that movie length games will not cut it in this market.
  18. In terms of progress which Badcogg is talking about I have to agree. I don't think steam even offers games which are only compatible with Windows 2k. IIRC that O/S isn't even supported by Microsoft anymore. So this leads me to believe that the steam platform updating requirements is a null issue. As for connection issues, I've never experienced any but I see how if I did it would make me mad. I noticed that sometimes if I had limited connection activity Steam wouldn't work properly, but when I completely disconnected my internet (as it didn't work anyway) it would log in offline fine. As for the greed thing, I don't think valve is greedy at all. In fact the opposite. They've released countless updates for their products which I've loved, released tons of free stuff, PAID community contributors, they offer kick ass compensation and benefits for employees and possibly the best deals on games anywhere. Just check out the sale they have right now! Yes they are rich but I'm rooting for them as long as they keep operating so nicely. Lastly, go but Doom3 if you haven't for TDM
  19. I agree that Steam is good. I've had my account since Steam went beta in 2002 and I've never once ever had an issue with it. I've spent hundreds of dollars and saved thousands using their service. If I was really paranoid about losing my games because they're digital, steam has a backup feature which I could use to move all my games to a different HD. Also contrary to many thoughts on steam, you do not need to be online to play a game, you just need to be online to download a game. Also if you want the manual, most good steam games have a manual option if you right click the game where you can view it. And tbh I don't like physical copies of games anymore, I don't like the physical space they take up, how fragile they are, or having to swap install from physical drives. Doom3 is one of the last games I ever bought in its physical form. Why spend the time swapping 4 cds and entering a cd key when I could double click doom3, go do something for 30 mins come back and it's ready to play? I adore Steam. ps: Shadowhide the doom3 engine and its assets make TDM possible. They spent more time and effort than we did making that engine, testing it, refining it and making D3 assets. Their hard work made our hard work possible. Have the integrity to pay $5 to support their hard work and ours.
  20. I remember him. Does that make me old?
  21. There was a command to view in-game where the AI are computing they can go. It would show square one the ground with numbers above them for about 2 seconds. I can't for the life of me remember what that command was but it was extremely helpful when mapping, it allowed you to easily see where AI could go and how you could easily optimize the map. Could anyone give me a hand with this, it's likely not used by much in mapping which is a shame. AI can cause big fps drops if not done right.
  22. Pretty amazing there will have be 48 missions for our great mod
  23. Cool, glad to see you are keeping in touch great job!
  24. I feel kinda ripped off that I paid for it
  25. This is age old bug I've recently discovered has evolved. Normally I have Catalyst AI turned off when using Doom3 because on my HD3870 card it causes post processing to act strange which is well documented. However after a long over due update of my drivers to 11.5 about a month ago I noticed Doom3 was stuttering a lot, even on maps with nothing in them. Because I wasn't playing I paid no attention to it, but recently I got fed up with it. I disabled Catalyst AI and the game runs at a higher fps with no stutters anymore for me. Just another to disable Catalyst AI for ATI users. If anyone else has had issues with stuttering and have an ATI card I'd suggest trying to turn Catalyst AI off.
