  1. I feel let down by this mission. The intro was so good and lighting done very well, but I started feeling a little uncomfortable with it when I walked on a ledge that appeared to be about 1cm wide. Then, the back of the destroyed house ended it for me. Just too much die/reload. Thief fans use the word "immersion" frequently; endless save/reload to get past a jumping puzzle is the ultimate immersion-breaker... and this mission teetered too far over the line of frustration for me. If your testers were getting frustrated with it, best to edit it rather than wait for the player to "get it."
  2. I thought it was only me. I get a fatal crash and corrupted save a couple of times on just about every mission with v. 1.07.
  3. Nice mission. Like the other posters, I felt it was a bit empty. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed it. I got frustrated at one point, because my first course of action was to check out the streets. I got to the gates to the temple, shot a rope arrow up to a ledge, rappelled onto a gargoyle and then came up against an invisible wall. Don't taunt me with your climbable geometry! :-) Oh, and it's "assassin," not "assasin." Two asses.

    Map bug

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but after playing the Flakebridge mission, I can't get rid of the map. It appears in every other mission I play. I've always uninstalled missions before installing new ones. Is there a temp file I can dump or something?
  5. Brilliant mission! Interesting scripting on the HUD and tunnels were very cool. One sort-of bug. I can't figure out the spoiler tags, so I hope I'm both sufficiently cryptic and clear: It involved dumping a body on a hatch and later, the hatch would not open unless I grabbed and carried the body through the hatch artwork (before opening, clipping problem) and dropping it elsewhere.
  6. I'm getting the following error at the end of the hall in the basement, near where the tile floor hall is located. The error occurs just as I begin to hear the approaching footfalls of the guard -- not certain there's a connection, though. It's a game-killer for me. It's only a few seconds after my save spot. Sorry if this has already been pointed out; I don't have the time to go through the entire thread. 7. Whoa, take it easy dude. Save your angst for your teachers. I have a degree in English, but not the Medieval variant (capital "M," if you want to nit-pick). So, kudos to you for being a smarty pants. Why do so many people in forums get their panties in a bunch when the word "grammar" is used? (It's "ar," by the way.) So you're getting twisted because ONE WORD was written in Medieval English? Really? How about the rest of it? It couldn't have POSSIBLY been a typo for "whose," could it? How silly of me. I had no idea the briefing was doffing its hat at Medieval English, so bad on me. How about comma splices in the briefing? Or are they clever jests, winking in the direction of Medieval English that I'm not getting? How is the reader supposed to know the education level and history of the briefing's writer? I normally don't care much about this stuff in a fan mission, but I was pointing it out because I thought the author would be going through the mission again at some later date. Just trying help. Believe it or not, in a written medium, grammar and spelling do matter. Now, non-English FM writers get a pass -- so don't play that card. If this FM author was non-English speaking and unsure about the wacky English rules, then no problem. This wasn't a personal indictment. He made a good mission, but writing is part of it too. That's what sets Thief on a slightly higher level than most games. Edit: I see "Stumpy" is the FM author. OK. So wherever I state "FM author," insert "Stumpy" or "you." The mission has FANTASTIC potential. Like I said, the layout was very well done. I really hope you'll take note of what the folks have posted here and tweak it a bit.
  8. I, also, got stuck in the sewers like an earlier poster because I didn't open the sewers before falling into them. I was under the impression from the briefing that there were multiple ways inside and I wasn't required to open the sewers. Whoops. I'd have to blame this on design rather than player-fault. Give us a way to open the sewers from the inside. I've seen some criticism that the map is too big; I disagree. It feels big and empty because, well, that's part of the plot. It could have been made a little more interesting, though. I know the guy was hitting hard times, but jeez, did he sell most of his furniture... or maybe burn it for heat? And given the state of emptiness, I'd think the guards would be much more likely to slack off. It would add a bit of atmosphere, too. I'm also getting a graphic anomaly of a red line in the skybox above me. It doesn't hurt anything, but it's rather annoying. Speaking of the outside... maybe just a few of the houses could be entered for the pilfering of some goodies, just to make those vast streets a bit more alive. Oh, and the grammar and spelling is a bit dicey. It took me a second glance to figure out what "whoes" was in the quote given in the load screen. My first thought was "whores." That's not the only problem spot, but it was one of the more amusing. Big mission. Obviously a lot of work, but it could use a few more passes to flesh it out. It felt like a beta. Lots of potential. The map, although empty, felt like a real place with enough room for all the people there.
  9. I enjoyed this very much. Good map, felt big. The AI only got a little goofy one time near the dining room door, where two guards had run into a closed door (one on each side) and just stayed there until I sneaked up and opened the door for the poor oafs. I played on the highest difficultly and found the challenge to be reasonable, even though there were a TON of guards walking around. It might have been easier sneaking in during the day! Good mission. Keep them coming.
  10. Great job to all. I love this mod. I have one question, and perhaps this has been addressed, but the sound of the main character's footfalls is a jarringly loud. Can it be backed off about 20% or is this hard-coded into Doom? It's reminiscent of the old complaint from TDP sounding like Garrett had tap shoes.
  11. Whoo hoo! Thanks! I'm downloading it now. What an effort the team has made. It's a shame you can't get any direct compensation for this -- but at the very least, it should get you plenty of respect in the gaming business.
  12. Thanks, guys. If I were a wee bit smarter I might have caught this sooner. The patch I had was 1.3.1.xx2. I thought I'd check in case the official site didn't have the latest version, for whatever reason. I grabbed the patch from your Wiki and all is well with 1.3.1.xx4. Sorry for all the trouble and being a bit of a doofus.
  13. Komag: The patch wouldn't install again because it told me I did it right the first time. :-) The game still will not launch from either the command line in the shortcut or choosing the mod from within Doom 3. I had no errors of any kind when installing the mod or Doom, but I'll try to download the mod from another source -- just to rule that out.
  14. Same error here. I can run Doom 3, but not the Dark Mod. The only difference between me and the other folks is that I'm running Vista. I've tried compatibility mode and that didn't fix a thing. In case the download location becomes the common factor, I used Shadowdark Keep. System specs: Vista, Home Premium 32-bit Intel quad core proc. 4 gb RAM NVidia 8800 GTS Fatal1ty Soundblaster card
