  1. Even though I've been absent a long while, I still find myself dreamily wishing for the free time to do TDM mission development. When working on new research projects I'll find myself involuntarily thinking, "hee hee this could be a fun texture or readable or bit of map architecture." Or I find myself absentmindedly responding out loud to odd noises with a drunkguard-like "must've been rats!"

"Little mission" is exactly the right advice. :) I have the same issue in writing: I need to learn how to condense, condense, condense.

Another example: Whenever I research ecclesiastical history, I've got a nagging voice in the back of my head, asking, "Could there possibly be a parallel event in the Builder's Church?"

I'm happy to do recordings of the "Drunk" vocalset; they'll be the highlight of my week! It'll just take a while for me to get to 'em.

  4. You are desperate, thorough arch-rascals, murderers, traitors, liars, the very scum of all the most evil people on earth. You are full of all the worst devils in hell - full, full, and so full that you can do nothing but vomit, throw, and blow out devils!

I work the night shift so I can shout at shadows "Come on out! I know you're around here somewhere, thief!"

  6. As a real-life night janitor, I get a real sense of satisfaction out of acting out a TDM guard. Once, I found a dead crayfish that escaped from the Biology laboratory, so I shouted: "Murder! There's a prowler on the loose! Come out into the open, you taffer!"

I found a big bag of Reese's Pieces submerged in a men's room toilet. "Looks like a code eight! Err...must have been rats. Oh well! Back to work!"

  7. I'm gonna give a course about level design for beginners in Dark Radiant at an art academy next month - how cool is this :D

      Mortem Desino

Nice. My exp isn't that cool--I used Dark Radiant as a tool for teaching 3D geometry.

Every kid wondered why they had to learn the "top; front; side views" in math class. I turned it into a PRACTICAL application! :)

I used to visit my college and other universities' rare book collections to translate works like these.

A Book of Hours! They were psalters/devotion books with ornamented pages between "chapters" with words like "I will uncover my lips to the Lord."

This one is really unique! Not only are the illustrations handpainted (not mass-printed woodcuts). And it seems to have been written by more than one scribe. The devotion on John 1 and the prayers up through pg 25 are written in a unique script. Then another scribe used a totally different ink and handwriting for...

Oh, I wasn't skimpy when I got my midtower's PSU. This was the CRT's power supply malfunctioning. And those electron guns ramp up to several thousand volts.

Maybe it was from a recent power surge. My secondary monitor was an old flat-face CRT. Thankfully, upgrading from a Radeon HD 4850 is not terribly expensive.

@Sir Taffsalot When I was building "The Creeps" I modified the Heat Haze shader so it would look like CoC's insanity. I didn't get it in-game, but I think I left the prototype and testmap in the pk4.

  11. I just saw a reporter Ann Lucia whose name was pronounced Loo-chee-ah. I always thought it was Loo-see-ah. So what's the proper way for Tears of St. Lucia?

Depends on if you've got more classical Greco-Roman or more Spaniard blood in ye.

  12. I love everything about mapping except for AI patrol routes. I find this ever so boring :(

    1. Mortem Desino

      Mortem Desino

I find it the hardest and least boring. Every AI route is like a puzzle for the player to solve!

  13. The GAME here is Thief (TDM); The "things" I mean are gameplay (eg. AI behavior)...But on to: What is up with Sly? Johannes?

    1. Mortem Desino

      Mortem Desino

I haven't seen progress in the Sly project's dropbox since 2010.

He was going to use stuff not exactly compatible with int'l copyright law (No, he wasn't using Thief IP) so I stopped contributing.

      Mortem Desino

I can sort of see it. I see Springheel's avatar moreso as the "gentleman rogue", though, I think.

  15. In the newest season of "Stromberg" there are Thief sounds (doors foot steps) used very often. How cool!

    1. Mortem Desino

      Mortem Desino

In early days, video game sounds were often the same as film foley effects. It's likely that Thief and Stromberg both worked with the same collection of foley reels.

The future indeed. I like the concept of "property". But nowadays, even after a company has sold something to you, they still want to be able to own and control it.

  17. I agree to some extent. Flash really is rather buggy, slow, and finicky. However, I will say I'm dissappointed that there doesn't seem to be complete alternative to it yet, or at least not one that has gained enough popularity and acceptance. Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to feel like a some of the online content that and creativity delivered through flash that used to make the Internet fun is dying with flash rather than moving to newer tech. I guess in a way I want fl...

@jaxa You probably saw it in a bug report many years ago. I was thoroughly confused and amused at the same time.

  20. Finally got a wireless mouse and keyboard for the home. After using a wireless mouse at work for the last few months and being able to swing around in my chair with my mouse in my hand whenever someone came to talk to me, I did the same at home forgetting my mouse wasn't wireless. I accidnetally tore it out of the cable.

    1. Mortem Desino

      Mortem Desino

Until recently, I've always been too chicken to get a wireless keyboard. I'm always afraid it'll miss a keystroke (which is crucial when programming).

I'm curious to see how they expect to "help Spain's banks directly", rather than going through central government.
