  1. I'm looking for the first William Steele episode called In the North, and it's not on the download list. Is this episode not converted to 2.0 yet or is there another download location? Thanks. ~~~~~~~ Edit: Sorry. i answered my own question. it was listed as "WS1 In the North" and I was overlooking it. I tried to delete this post but found i didnt have the ability.
  2. LOL.. yeah .. I missed it - But.. I have a good excuse.. just been out of touch past few days with a bad case of bronchitis. Got to where I could not breathe and spend all day yesterday in the emergency room. Whats the second thing I do after getting home from the hospital after some needed rest - play TDM of course ! Thanks for all the great answers folks.
  3. I'm still looking over the materials for the engine. I was thinking of a way that may help mappers be able to create mini campaign via a single mission area. What would make this work is locking off certain areas of the map until you receive a new objective.. These could be akin to the cut scenes you see that make a transition between gameplay areas and shops to purchase more equipment, like in other games. In this manner you could make a very large, and long and very detailed mission. You could have thus multiple missions all inside one mission area. Is this possible?
  4. I read someplace (I forget where) that the bodies were supposed to flip over every other time you drop them. In this way you can be sure to reach any loot they may be carrying on their back sides. I cannot seem to make this happen. In order to make it work, i have to find a ramp that will allow me to slide the body onto it, then drop the body so it falls off the ramp and lands on it's back. Many missions do not have any ramps, I remember from the thief games Garret carried the bodies over his shoulder. If TDM did this, it would be much easier to drop the bodies so they fall on their front, allowing you to reach the back. Is this possible with TDM? Might we see this in the future? It might also play a greater role in stealth play because a body on the shoulder could be more easily seen than a body being dragged around in the street.
  5. I'm just a gamer not a programmer.. don't know any C languages or anything. I assume this editor is what people use to make the fan missions. How hard is it to use for a newbie who is new to designing games? Can I even do it without knowing any programming languges?
  6. I'd like to see it as " if you biuld it, they will come". This is my second play through of the missions and of course now I have some new missions to play. YAY! I'm so happy this project is still alive. This is the Only way for Thief fans to get the stealth fix they need. I'm sure there are still tons of Thief fans that havent heard about TDM yet. I love the posters idea above to bundle TDM with GOG's Thief 1, 2 and 3 collection. I'm thinnking too once Thief 4 is out there will be game play nuances and mechanics that TDM team and modders never thought of that might get incorperated into the next version of TDM. Exciting times we live in. To me TDM can only get better. If you wait till your popular enough you may never get there.. it might be better to do the GOG thing now and hope they come after the fact - you know what they say about young couples trying to have a baby right? If they wait till they have the money for the kids, they will never have kids.. just have the kid now and you'll be o.k. in the long run having not waited to have the kid.
  7. Well here is an idea I had while browsing the Steam thread. I personaly don't like Steam but no matter.. I expect the dev team to do what they feel is right for the game and if they want Steam, so be it. I'd also like to see a full torrent with all the current missions already downloaded and incorperated into the installer. ( I might make this and upload it if there are no objections) To get more exposure for TDM 2.0 why not try to get it on GOG.com and Desura? GOG.com does have some free games they offer, mostly indie games. The Dark Mod could get tons of exposure at GOG I think. Same with Desura. It's a good avenue I'd like to see explored. BTW, I'm not suggesting using GOG or Desura over Steam, I'm saying do both as well as a full torrent with missions, downloaded from popular torrent sites aka The Pirate Bay.. This will be 4 ways to get more exposure. Many people use GOG, Desura and/or Steam. These are the 3 biggest gaming sites. It just makes sense to me, that If your going to get The Dark Mod on one platform (Steam) you'd be shooting yourself in the foot by not getting it on the others. This would really maximise esposure.
  8. I know exactly what I'm talkinng about. All the double checks the system uses is a form of DRM. It's just not commonly called so. It serves the same purpose as DRM. DRM is itself a system of checks to ensure you can legally play the game. Same as all the hoops Steam makes you jump through. To make Black Mesa work, I had to create a new email account then use that to create my login info. This gets Steam working but I still cannot use this same info to log on to the forum, and I'm supposed to. When logging on if your info don't work they ask you to verify via a Captcha whitch Never works for me or many other folks. It's a big issue many folks have even though others seem to never have these problems. I had to create this new account in the first place because I do have another steam account that I can use to log into the forum BUT, this same info would not work with the steam client. After I fought with the Steam system for a couple of days I then decided to make the new account which like I say is still buggy. I also have a strong dislike for companies that gets too big for thier britches and Valve is one of them. ( This forum needs a spell checker, sorry for the typos. I just got so frustrated with the whole mess I deemed Steam null and void.
  9. 1st. I apologise about getting anyone up at 5 am, 2nd, as this is my 2nd palythrough of TDM, I Really love and appreciate everything you guys do.so much so.. I came back. Heck I hope this project lives forever and we wind up with thousands of fan missions. Enough kissing ass.. (although richly deserved) I dunno if it's my bug or your bug, I just want it so no one else has to bother with it. You have my great thanks.
  10. Lots of people love torrents. Since you can download all the missions and repackage your darkmod folder for re-installation, - why not make a torrent with all the current missions already added to the system? This way folks will have tons of missions from the start and the only missions that needs to be downloaded will be newer missions. It will look and feel like a more complete game. Heck, I could put together such an installer and make such a torrent if no one has any objections..The places for such an install, like Pirate Bay and KickAss torrents will greatly help spread the word about The Dark Mod. It will be a popular torrent in this fasion. I do not believe it will be as popular without the missions added. People don't want to have to download a game then download missions seperatly IMO. Make it easier and the game will be more popular.
  11. I say Hell No to Greenlight Ever. I can't vote because the option " Never, no reason needed and besides Steam Sucks" is not there LOL Greenlight to me is for upcoming game developers to get a little help in publicity for the purposes of being able to continue to develope the new game. They need money and support as a new game dev. Greenlight helps them get both of those. The Dark Mod is a finished product with fan made missions. It does not require this same type of assistance from Greenlight. The devs aren't looking to sell the Dark Mod so they aren't after money. The Dark Mod will always be a free game. They could not benefit from the Greenlight community. Second, Steam SUCKS. I had to get Steam to play Black Mesa. I'll never again use the horrid Steam. The system is full of DRM. Valve is in your face with DRM as much as if not worse than Google. I'm not talking about DRM in the games themselves.. I'm talking about DRM for the Steam system and the checks and double checks they use to sign up and connect to the platform and also forum - these systems don't work right half the time and are very annoying. Don't believe me.. Google problems with Steam and you'll see. Couldn't be anything worse than Steam IMO. I would hate to see TDM go down this stupid road. Sure I'd like to see TDM get tons of attention but Steam is Not the right way to do it.
  12. Yeah.. you are talking about the Horrid " normally accepted" keyboard layout using WASD keys to walk plus the left ctrl key for your jump function. Horrid for me that is.. I hate having my hand on the left side of the keyboard, so i use the arrow keys plus the right shift key for Run. Anyway, with my layout I have changed the Jump from / to Zero on the number keypad. This allows my to hit the right shift key to run and hit the Zero key to jump very comfortably - once I got used to it.. This thread can close cus I'll just play as stated above and with the game in a window. Both problems solved. Thanks a lot folks for your insight. Stay close to the shadows!
  13. When new folks use the new 2.0 engine and download the missions from the games built in downloader, they have no idea what the missions are like, which ones to try first ect.. there is simply no info on this to help make a decision. Many folks won't go on a game forum to find such info. The Dark Mod 's missions seems to me can be broken up into categories. Very small maps ( in terms of megabyte size and game play) as well as easier maps can be in these categories - But only if this holds true. For instance: You can have single standalone missions in a category by itself and out of these in decending order on the list you'll see either small medium or large size or perhaps categorized by easy, harder and hardest. Next I would list all the missions that are not standalone.. ie. have multiple parts. I would also list these by either small medium or large size or perhaps categorized by easy, harder and hardest. Perhaps you could have such a category for times to play with short missions listed then, longer and longest. You get the idea. In this way when people download missions they will have a better idea what the mission is like so they can choose which one to download, install and play. Anything will be better IMO than these missions only being listed alphabeticly. What do you guys think??
  14. I Just discovered something. It was mentioned to test the keyboard ( in another forum) to bind the Jump function to the mouse middle button. I tried this and it worked.. so now i'm about to eat cake because it seemed like it was the keyboard after all - BUT - I decided to try some more key bindings. I found that assigning the jump function to the / key will cause the run jump to work correctly - so it's not the keyboard after all unless they have some odd settings that just deal with the Spacebar key. Seems when Jump is spacebar, run jump cannot happen. When Jump is slash, it works just fine. .So back to - is it the keyboard or the game? I'm not sold yet on it being my keyboard. The run jump combo is such a popular feature in tons of games, i just cannot see the industry doing that - and like I said, i do know it works in other games I have.. so it's quite the odd duck.
