  1. Really nice work. A great excuse for another playthrough!
  2. This has to be a joke. The lack of imagination here is really sad. A plague, a mysterious old woman, a missing girl, tyrants pursuing power and a scrappy rebel faction looking to set things right. Eidos Montreal are looking to the trappings of Arkane's Dishonored for inspiration, rather than Looking Glass, Ion Storm or doing something original. Unless they're still hiding it, Thief lacks any gameplay innovations beside the swoop feature. The supernatural abilities drew folks to Dishonored and made it feel distinct from Thief. It has a personality. Thief looks like first-person Assassin's Creed.
  3. Well said. I'm not surprised Eidos Montreal has included a lot of options for the u.i. since they did the same with Human Revolution. I'm sure the pc version will be a slick, excellent port as it's being handled by Nixxes. I just wish E.M. had spent more time coming up with a clear, clever design for Thief 4. Thief lacks an identity. Contextual movement is a giant misread on what made the series special, but there are other major concerns. What's special about the stealth? Why is full-body awareness necessary for the game? Can the player interrupt the first-person animations sequences? Can guards travel between locations, or will all the encounters be completely discrete like the Editor of PC Gamer claimed? It seems you can make as much noise as you want when collecting "shinies" that even if there's a guard on the other side of the door, he's completely oblivious to the players actions and won't enter under any circumstances. How can the designer maintain any sense of tension if this is the case? It's clear the team have only recently realized the kind of game they making and don't have time or resources for it to reach it's full potential. The options are nice but considering the poor showing the games had in 2013 and that they've spent half a year doing full-blown damage control, expected.
  4. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1965151&postcount=6 Ugh!
  5. Voted! The teams incredible effort transitioning the Dark Mod to a standalone title deserves to be recognized.
  6. 'As for the QTEs, it's not a joke, but you'll have to wait until the next Take 5 for the full details!' http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1957052&postcount=24 As has been pointed out before, this seems really late in the process to be making such radical changes to the game.

  8. Fantastic new! I can't wait to play through it tonight.
  9. Just a silly joke! But with this project, you never know...
  10. It's a virus/keylogger. If a beta had leaked, like it did with Human Revolution, everyone would know about it. That leak only happened because HR's release date was pushed back by 6 months, and as a consequenc they were in the position to digitally distribute the first ten hours of gameplay of a nearly finished game. Thief on the other hand is still in heavy development. Eidos Montreal's still overhauling systems. It sounds like QTEs are going to be removed next. http://community.eidosmontreal.com/blogs/Take-5-QA-4?theme=thief
  11. This is going to be a disaster. That the Thief series got caught in this messy, unfocused development is a gaming tragedy. It'll be years before an team gets another shot at the series.
  12. Some great Thief discussion on the Crate and Crowbar podcast (PC Gamer UK staff). They highlight that unlike Human Revolution and the previous Thief games, Thief (2014) isn't an immersive sim but is a just a vanilla stealth game. 'They modernised the wrong bits of Thief.' http://crateandcrowbar.com/2013/10/11/episode-013-give-a-little-pluck-to-their-lovely-loom-of-fate/ 30:00 - 51:00
  13. www.polygon.com/2013/10/10/4823786/thief-dev-says-theyre-past-development-woes An early build prone to crashes is understandable, but this doesn't bode well for a AAA title that's shipping in a few months.
  14. There's some new gameplay footage and, although the commentary is in German, it shows off a a few new areas that haven't been demonstrated before. https://gameone.de/blog/2013/10/vorschau-auf-thief
  15. Top comment from the youtube page:
  16. www.pcgamer.com/2013/10/09/the-dark-mod-gets-standalone-release-thief-inspired-fps-now-playable-without-doom-3/ Congrats guys! I can't imagine how much work must've gone into this. Brilliant stuff!

  17. Cheers for posting this, jtr7! I love hearing from ex-Looking Glass staff.
  18. Beautiful work Bikerdude and Baal. I can't wait to play it.
  19. Just finished a few playthroughs of the Transaction. Wow, what a great mission. The contrast between interiors and stormy outdoors is beautiful. I had a few attempts at stealth foiled by lightning giving away my position. The guards are really clever, examining out of the way alleys and doorways. Some usually helpful areas are filled with water which is a nice devious touch. If you plan to stash a body, there will be consequences. The guards with torches are truly terrifying and not overused - really excellent placement. Seeing the shadows retreat as torchlight fills a narrow alleyway makes you act fast! I love the penultimate goal in the game. It's so intimate, and paints a genuinely earnest portrait of a man on the run. It's a sublime moment. The Transaction is filled with fantastic moments of discovery, all instigated by the player. One of my favourite Dark Mod missions.
  20. I would love to try out TDM 2.0. I've never beta tested anything before, but I've played just about every Dark Mod fm to completion. I'm definitely keen to give it a go.
  21. I really appreciate everyone who's contributed to the Dark Mod in any capacity. There's obviously no rush, and thanks to the Thief announcement, it seems likely that Dark Mod will be featured and cited frequently throughout the year as a true Thief experience. I just completed FIdcal's excellent 'Teach yourself to mod in one day' guide and have started to plan out a very humble mission. I hope I won't bug folks with too many questions.
  22. So it looks like Thief 4 will finally be unveiled tomorrow. Look for it on the next Game Informer cover. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?p=1870324&postcount=285 *ahem* What's this?? You guys are talking about Deus Ex in the Thief forums?? This won't do. Not at all. I'm gonna have to do something about this..... Something drastic. Let's reconvene tomorrow. Set your watches, taffers. YAY!
  23. Thanks Ladro and Jetrell! I really appreciate the interest. Bethesda is trying to bury a really promising, nearly content complete game due to contractual issues. I just want this unique game to see the light of day. I'll edit the OP if anything of interest happens Cheers, Mr. Tibbs
