  1. Interesting, although I'm not sure what to make of that. One of my favorite games (The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena) was published by Atari, and, they don't even seem to care to keep the activation servers running much. Or remove/change the copy protection, which doesn't work at all on Windows 11. I really hope that Nightdive delivers at the end of May... I'm not one of the shit storm crowd (it's absolutely horrible on the Steam forums...), but, 7 years of development is a long time, and delaying the release obviously has become a bit of a habit, to say the least.

I didn't know that first trick setting up the base, so thanks for that.

  3. according to the kickstarter is was to be a myst type game, but they the developers changed the direction on it sometime after the kickstarter finished, apparently the backers were told about the direction change. got that info off a post on steam. takes about 2 hours to complete.
  4. Maybe. On their Kickstarter they were talking about being a small team and such and not having the manpower to focus on both at the same time. Yeah looks like it, and I'm happy because there used to be just a few choices. Now we just need a few more good movies, because I've watched The Road too many times. There's an HBO mini-series at the moment called Chernobyl if you're interested. As far as I know it's a realistic series, so no monsters or anything. It's just about the pre and after events of the disaster. This demo is an alpha for Kickstarter backers, so it will certainly improve. Funny fact: The URL of this topic has the numbers 19986
  5. Love your signature over at the Eidos forums. Hahaha!

      Maijstral

I don't normally even use signatures, but I've used a few to voice my displeasure at what EM is doing to Thief. I'll probably stick with that one until I lose interest in visiting the EM forums.

  6. Only 3 days left on the 'Firmament' Kickstarter campaign. Almost funded! $1,088,924 pledged of $1,285,000 goal. I think that's US dollars... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1252280491/firmament
  7. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pimax8kvr/pimax-the-worlds-first-8k-vr-headset https://www.roadtovr.com/pimax-8k-vr-headset-coming-kickstarter-later-month/ This is the right direction for VR. Especially important is the wide field of view: 200 degrees. However, it doesn't have the widest field of view on the market: StarVR has a 210 degree FOV. The Pimax Kickstarter mentions "Pimax 8K offers 200° Field of Vision (FOV), which is far closer to matching the natural human FOV of 220°." IIRC the natural human FOV actually varies by a few degrees from person to person (scary, huh?). But 220 degrees should probably cover every human alive. Wikipedia says "slightly over 210-degree forward-facing horizontal arc of their visual field" and "binocular vision, which is the basis for stereopsis and is important for depth perception, covers 114 degrees (horizontally) of the visual field in humans; the remaining peripheral 40 degrees on each side have no binocular vision" (194 degrees?). The "8K" or "5K" in the name is a little deceptive. It should be called 4K or 2.5K per eye. 7680x4320 is what is referred to as 8K. Pimax is 7680x2160. However there is a precedent, see the Ultra-Wide 5K (5120x2160) and Ultra-Wide 10K (10240x4320) resolutions which are 21:9 aspect ratio This is 32:9 aspect ratio. Super-Ultra-Wide 8K? It also talks about using a "Brainwarp" algorithm/method to effectively double the 75-90 Hz refresh rate to 150-180 Hz. If this is so easy, why hasn't Oculus, HTC, or Google done it (it would be especially useful on mobile and console platforms to double the framerate from a lower number)? It could be a marketing lie. Here's another thing that is not clear to me: there is an "8K" model and "8K X" listed in the reward tiers. It implies that the "8K X" does 90 Hz while the other one does 75 Hz. I have not watched the video, just read the text.
  8. What's going on with the Thi4f forums? They've been down for almost a week now.

Well that's not going to work. If they can't post about Thi4f on the Thi4f forums they can come and post about TDM on the TDM forums.

People thought it was the server migration under Square-Enix that we've been told about, but they came back online like nothing happened, and the dedicated thread about the coming migration had no new info.

      Can't see this?:

maybe it was a migration test, and it broke.

  9. Holy crap are we getting another download spike? The forums keep going intermittent on me.

      Lux

"for some reason" I imagine is you being sarcastic as we all know everybody and their brother/sister are online on Sunday either shopping or looking at porn combined with all the gaming packets.

I'm sure there are also people just "reading things for the articles" though...

  10. Above 3 items are released now, on the "Barks" thread: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21740-english-subtitles-for-ai-barks/&do=findComment&comment=483331
  11. Welcome to the New Mappers Workshop! This is a communal workshop for new mappers who have never made a TDM mission before. Each week or two I will make a tutorial video and help to guide everyone through the process of creating a small, complete mission. I'm hoping the participants will feel free to ask questions, no matter how small--we're all here to learn from and encourage each other. Since I expect this thread to get fairly busy, I'm going to be heavy-handed about removing off-topic content. ====================================================================================================================================================================== Lessons often include links or other written instructions; direct links to the lessons are collected below: Lesson 1: Planning http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=407999 Lesson 2: Visportals http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408253 Lesson 3: Your First Room http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408484 Lesson 4: Decorating Your Rooms http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=408785 Lesson 5: Connecting Your Rooms http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409215 Lesson 6: Outdoor "Rooms" http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409322 Lesson 7: Creating Doors http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409547 Lesson 8: Functional Props (ie, entities) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=409731 Lesson 9: Immersive Details (sound/particles) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=410258 Lesson 10: Advanced Brushwork (ladders/water) http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=410667 Lesson 11: AI http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18945-tdm-new-mappers-workshop/?p=411192

    Forums fixed

Had a problem with the web server yesterday that led to a crashed table in the forum database. This has now been repaired and things seems to work again. I was on travel so it took a while before I was able to fix it. Merry Christmas!
  13. When I tried your .exe, I got this: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21477-water-effects-not-rendered-through-warp-glass/&do=findComment&comment=475732 You also suggested trying the 'latest development build'. I asked if that can be obtained using tdm_installer, and you said 'yes'. That's what I reported here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21477-water-effects-not-rendered-through-warp-glass/&do=findComment&comment=475856 So - I am probably doing something wrong but not sure what
  14. Instead of that, you could, in that time period, start learning your own missions and in doing so become more active on the forums, learning from others. It's also great to understand how things work in the engine, when you play. It might spoil some immersion though.. Or learn to build games with other engines, like Godot for example.
  15. I can get on the main forum now but still get an error when trying to load posts. Anyone else?
  16. There is no SS3, how can they do a remake? And thank god they got rid of unity, that engine is total trash garbage on anything over 60 fps. Just spend 5 minutes on steam forums for Unity project games, and there's just thousands of people complaining about poor performance, stuttering etc.

  17. Just a heads up that the header images are now missing from the top of the forum. I suspect due to domain forwarding or something like that?
