1st person view

Morning

 

Ive just enabled player shadow, and for the most part it look cool, until the player is right next to a light source. The shadow was obviously done by the tdm team, have any player bodywork been built (arms, torso, legs) - this would then make the player shadow perfect as it would have something to link to in 1st person view.

 

I dont suppose there is a way to include my autoexec file with the arg that enables player shadow, is it as simple as included an autoexec.cfg file in the pk4 file..?

Player shadow is not supported, and body awareness is not planned. Getting either to work properly would take a lot of animation work. For example, consider TDM's advanced movement, like mantling onto surfaces of arbitrary height. You can't have a single animation for that. It wouldn't be impossible to animate but it would take a lot of very careful tweaking.

 

Body awareness is very tricky to get right; just look at Thief 3 to see why. I'm sure nobody want's TDM's smooth movement to become that clunky overnight. :) Of course it can and has been done really well (Mirror's Edge being the obvious example), but you need significant time and resources which we just don't have.

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

      I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

      Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
      I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
