Can you run other TDM missions without any problems? If so try this:

 

Turn the PK4 file into a zip file. Unzip the folder. Copy the Dufford map file into the Dark Mod Map folder. Start Dark mod. Open the console. To do this press Ctrl, Alt and ` simultaniously. Type "dmap Dufford (or whatever the name of the map file is)". Once it has finished compiling type "map Dufford (again whatever the name of the map file is)".

 

I can't guarantee this will work.

Must be something the the filename or path for some custom material or script that Win7 doesn't like. I'll take a peek at the contents when I get a chance.

Thanks for the replies. I followed Sir Taffsalot's instrunctions. Dmap seems fine, but after running the map with the "map" command, the map loads forever. But after alt tabbing back to windows doom 3 minimizes and gives me a log window. It seems that this is the last contest:

It's definitely an aas thing, not those images. I'm not sure what the images mean but I've gotten them recently while testing stuff and it doesn't effect loading, or even skins in game.

 

But when you have invalid aas areas it won't load.

 

You need to delete all the files in the map folder, except .map (if you didn't) and dmap. That'll create new files.

the aas errors are for doors that dont touch the ground, I wrote some of the material files so maybe one of those is wrong, the malloc error at the end has been reported else where in the forum.

 

the images that wont load dont exist in the texture pk4 file and have something to do with the snd part of the light on those light objects.

The AAS errors are for doors that aren't in places where the AI can get to them. For example, a footlocker that's embedded in monster_clip has a door for a lid. Since that door is embedded in monster_clip, it's not in a valid AAS area. It doesn't matter whether it touches the ground or not. A door that's in an area AI can't reach at all--like a few of the areas in Dufford's--will also not be in a valid AAS area.

 

As a player, you can ignore those warnings. As a mapper, you should check to make sure any doors that show up on that list are doors you really don't expect the AI to use.

Alright.

 

Since most of the big errors are benign, that Malloc error at the end must be the culprit. For Win7 environments that is usually caused by 64bit memory addresses below the 4gb mark being eaten by other applications and thus Doom 3 doesn't know how to allocate the remaining memory. The ntcore 4gb patch should fix that.

 

Otherwise, the other common scenario is that you don't have compressed textures enabled in DoomConfig.cfg.

I love the work done on the back story here.. Really makes me curious about what's next. You do intend to make more missions following this plot, right?

 

General bugs and other comments: I've encountered silent guards. The water wheel, shouldn't it be spinning the other way? Found a stuck lever (mentioned above, I think) and had to noclip. The objective 'find out what officially happened..' wasn't ticked after reading the official notes.

 

As for the gameplay itself I have to admit it was a bit tedious. Most of the problems were covered already by the others. On the other hand, the clues make this a very exploratory mission, so it's interesting to be able to navigate quickly through the map, and fewer guards help there.

just basically changed some locks to have less pins, changed some text to match altered story line, fixed waterwheel rotation, changed some stairs so its possible to go down them standing up, fixed a bug where the game crashed on pick pocketing some items, moved some furniture around in guards room due to fixing stairs.

I downloaded from ttlg.de and in my version (using Win 7) the new updated FM always crashes while loading - couldn't start the mission therefore no matter how I often I tried to load it. Anyone has the same problems?

only works in english language, its only a minor bug update, fixes waterwheel turning the wrong way, a fix to some stairs, fixes a crash when pickpocketing map from guard in streets, graphics fix on map icon and some guis graphics fixes, and changed some 5 pin locks to 3 pin locks.

It probably has less to do with 'not being part of TDM Universe' and more with 'possible copywrite infringement issues'

There's warnings on the wiki about that... if it's possible infringment on an ip it's possible the mod could take heat, thus the mod can't 'officially support' it. Thus not in the DL list or wiki.

Are there any other missions like this, where they're not in the in-game downloader? It'd be nice if there was a thread that collected them so that fans could have a chance to play them.

      Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
      I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
