Help! Can't dmap

Recommended Posts

My file structure is "doom 3/mymap/maps/mymap.map".

I invoke dmap using "dmap mymap.map".

This has worked fine for a couple months, but after playing a fan mission (Heart) for a while, dmap now says it can't find mymap.map.

How do I get dmap back on track?

Thanks.

Uninstall Heart. Alternatively...

If you want to both play FMs and develop your own map and test play it in its own game folder as you are then create a new doom3 shortcut. Do not use tdmlauncher - keep that only for managing and playing other FMs. Add to your doom3 shortcut the args:

+set fs_game mymap

So with the console enabled it reads something like:

C:\doom 3\Doom3.exe +seta com_allowConsole 1 +set fs_game mymap

I'm not sure about the space in your doom 3 folder. If a problem then remove it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had already tried uninstalling Heart, and dmap still failed. Some setting was silently changed for running fms, and uninstalling didn't change it back.

Using the command line options on a Doom 3 shortcut allows dmap to find the map, but it knows nothing of the darkmod resources, so it fails loading textures, etc.

I added the options to the tdmlauncher shortcut, but dmap still can't find the map.

Still broken.

Proceed with caution!

Sorry, I missed out part of the doom 3 shortcut. This is what the arguments should be...

+set fs_game_base darkmod +set fs_game mymap

currentfm.txt is used only by tdmlauncher. If you use that method then whenever you play some other FM then currentfm.txt will change and you will have to remember that you may have conflict.

That works now. I'll use that method so I don't have problems switching back and forth to published missions.

Thanks.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
