Just yesterday I was visiting a very old temple here in Tokyo, and around the back it has rusty old pipes and jambles of wires coming out of it, and I was thinking, this looks awesome, the way periods of history are jumbled together in a messy organic way. So in principle I'm a fan. In that photo above, I can agree the particular pipe and aircon units aren't the most aesthetically inspired though, compared with the rest of it. If I were designing it myself, I'd have used more industrial and sturdy versions.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

The absolute extreme is probably our city. I don't know if there's more powerful extremes as ours is. History must be preserved.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

The works of Thomas Kinkade are something to get lost in. In particular the outdoors-oriented mappers - those mountain, lake, cottage scenes are splendid - but for anyone else as well. (For TDM: imagine everything in sombre desaturated colours)

Imagine wandering through the wilderness, and the path leads to this hamlet.

He does mansions as well.

Found some nice ambient music that made me think of TDM.

Some tracks remind of Shuttered Island and the recurring theme of it:

On the same note, more glorious and clever use of synthesizers in 1970's style. The dude is very hardworking and dedicated. His work on Depths of Fear :: Knossos impressed me. Even if it was objectively a mediocre dungeon crawler with roguelike elements, he made like 10 updates. 1 man army.

Dragofer, those images are gorgeous. The hamlet just begs to be made, and that castle looks like it's right up your alley. Looks very similar to your last mission title screens. :)

Wonder why he calls it level designs, when these are environments, and it’s not meant for gameplay. Also, while he uses quality models (often made by someone else), IMO there’s not enough intention in his work. Alchemist shop looks pretty decent, but I wonder whether this is just because it’s set in a daylight, and most of the work is done by the lightmass engine. That throne room was made later, and has barely any lighting design or intention to guide viewer’s eye in whatever direction.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
