Hi Stepan and welcome to the forums. I think you misinterpreted this thread a little. We are not seeking free music here, but well, as the thread says, progressive, innovative or unconventional music. :) Thanks for sharing, anyway! ;)

Maybe in Europe the music on NoCopyrightSounds is considered fairly standard. In the U.S., that kind of music is not very popular.

The fact that it is free/no copyright is an added bonus - but they actually only allow you to use it royalty free without permission on YouTube or Twitch. They might be supported by Google somehow. If you want to use it somewhere else you have to get permission from them.

I would categorize most of the music on NoCopyrightSounds as progressive rock or pop. Whether or not it is innovative or unconventional - like I said at least not in the U.S.

Fore example, the band who made this song:

Also made a song using the voice of a goat - I don't think you can get more innovative or unconventional than that:

Well, no offense, but the two songs you posted are simple and plain EDM, just like 70 % of the songs you hear at the big mainstream festivals. Progressive Rock, however, is definitely wanted here! :)

Anyway, that goat tune is funny! :D

I may have posted this before, I don't remember. But I really like it.

Borghetti is known as a traditional musician (traditional to the south of Brasil) but over the years he expanded a lot, and now his music spans a lot of different genres. He's extremely skilled and so is the rest of the band, which I think adds a jazz flavor to his music.

This thread seems to have a rock/metal focus, but I thought I'd share something a little different for those who like electronic music: the soundtrack to Streets of Rage 3, an old beat-em-up game for the Sega Genesis.

The music from this game is definitely what you'd call "unconventional". The composer was getting very experimental at this point in the series and some of the music gets downright weird and freaky. Some people absolutely hate it, but I really like it. I guess it's mostly what you'd call trance and techno. Here's a sample.

blur - one of my favourite bands recorded new album after 12 years. I listened to it couple of times and in my opinion it's not their best work. But there's still some good music there.

It's only a model...

From 5:01 onward I'd imagine this as a cool background music for the last mission's cutscene in a long campaign... experimental and probably too much metal for the thief-lovers, but I'd prefer that over electronic beats.

I always thought the audio hardware in this machine was awful, but this guy really knew how to make it sing. It almost sounds like some of the sounds in there are sampled. I think some of that old music was hybrid; using samples and synth. This is from back when games were under a megabyte.

Putin anyone?

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
