Hehe I'd personally like overwhelm the players with all of the maps at one point. I love the feeling when you don't know what to do first because there's plenty of choises! I'm gonna wait with the release until the deadline. This will be an awesome day for the players where everyone needs to take vacation to play all the new cool maps :D

OK we have 5 months before the deadline. SeriousToni is ready to go and I'm quite confident that RPGista will deliver the goods. However I'd like to hear from the other competitors, even if it's just to say everythings going fine. As of right now it's looking like a 2 horse race. I new that some people would drop out but I would like at least 4 contest entries.

What? No, Deadline is April 12th.

Look at the requirements. For what do we need 5 more months? :huh:

 

Start date - 12/12/2011

Completion date - 12/04/2012

(British calender so that's 4 months after 12/12/2011)

 

Requirements:

Size - 10 rooms which can include city streets. Including more than 10 rooms is fine within reason.

Theme - Any theme is fine.

 

Some things you might need:

If your stuck on anything please ask in the TDM editors guild. Everyones very helpful and you usually get a quick reply

Workin' on it still, as far as estimates go..

 

AI - placement 50%

- pathing 25%

 

Map - brushwork 75%

- patches (lol who knows)

 

Readables (haven't really started placing them)

 

Objectives 10%

 

Cool/fun stuff - no idea.

 

May not sound like much, but the map has really taken shape so far, only a few small touches in a few areas 'til they're done. Nice surprise lined up for you guys too :P

Haha, Sir meant weeks, Im sure. Its going to be tight, but I think you guys will like some of the spaces inside this mission.

 

AI placement - 75%

AI pathing - 0, havent really started and this part is kinda of worrying (there are some tough problems here to crack actually)

 

Brush geometry is around 95% I would say, but Im not counting decorating/furnishing rooms which is around 75%, Im gonna have to finish as I go about placing AI, items, decals, etc. (Patchwork, who knows indeed, its through the roof). The chapel building is killing me, though its looking as solid and sober as I wanted. All the doors and windows (around 80% placed) still need to be linked to keys, locked, all those things (hoping its gonna be simple).

 

I had to ditch some triggered conversations, there'll unfortunetely be no time to learn, test and implement them, which is a shame...

 

Some of the complex stuff with AI was tested but I stll need to place in the map, link to objectives, etc.

 

Objectives - 0% too, still have to understand it from scratch haha, there's only one in there though and a possible hidden one, we'll see.

 

Time for sprinting!

Ah 5 weeks, still if someone was motivated enough :)

 

I'd say it's probably a good time to start worrying about getting objectives and all the major stuff in place. Then if you have a few weeks left worry about details.

 

@RPGista,

Doors /keys are easy. (off top of my head) create key, name, copy name, select door, paste name in 'used by' prop. Checked is locked to 1 (I might be a little off on that but I'm sure you can figure it out) (and make sure to set lockpick types if you want lock pick too).

 

Don't save objectives til the deadline. They are pretty easy, but bugs can crop up, when I did Rift one objective gave me problems for 3 days and I barely made it in time.

I've been adding them as I flesh out areas, so the objectives are in a constant state of progress, as it were.

REALLY looking forward to the missions! I personally like it better when the releases aren't all at once because I tend to take more time appreciating the work when I'm not constantly thinking "What is that other mansion mission like that just came out?" while playing the first one.

I'm going to have to with-draw my entry do to college. I'm sure there will be more contests. Besides I'm taking the summer semester off so I'll have plenty

of time for the next contest.

Cool, here's my guess:

 

AI placement - 90% - they are all there, but there's still some editting to be done (like worry about different faces, clothes, and even attributes)

 

AI pathing - 75%, most of the AI patrols are done, only a few left really.

 

Brush geometry is around 99% - that doesnt include decoration, decals, etc. Im guessing I'll leave that part for last and see how much can be done. BTW, still working on that church, but its basicly the last building that needs major construction.

 

Light work is around 75% I would say, sketched pretty much all over, but still needs revision adn tweaking.

 

Some of the complex stuff with AI was tested but I stll need to place in the map, link to objectives, etc. Doing this now actually.

 

Objectives - still havent touched them, Im counting on the Startmap template to get me going, studying it now.

 

Readables - around 10%, betpet is going to help me fleshing them out, as Im not a native speaker.

That's some serious progress Xarg. I believe you can make it on time.

 

If time is money, then I currently have unlimited disposable income :D . Lost a lot of mapping time in Feb due to clan stuff going on in another game, but now that that's sorted, I have time to dedicate to finishing this.

 

One thing I forgot to add to the progress chart above, was the detail passes I guess, so I'll do that now.

Hey guys. My map is about near ready for betatesting. What i need is someone native in English who could overlook/check my readables and fix them/say me how to fix them. I am not a native english speaker so there are probably grammatical errors + the awkward use of some vocabluary (dictionarys always list about 10 possibilities to translate a certain word ;) ) included. Whether the wording is appropriate for the Thief/TDM universe should also be checked (no need for some medieaval slang, but e.g. i dont know which words would be too "modern" or too much "modern slang" etc.). Its not really that much, about 9 readables + the briefing. It would be really nice if someone would help me with that. ;)

 

They are already in the map, but i would simply send all of them in a text/word-file for an easy check. o;

      I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
