TDM in The News

To me the the initials TDM work because its 3 letters eg -

TDP - The Dark Project

TMA - The Metal Age

TDS - Thief Deadly shadows

TDM - The Dark mod

The only game to break this great tradition is abomination that is T4 and another example of this fine tradition is startrek -

TOS - The original series

TNG - The next generation

DSP - Deep space nine

STV - Star trek voyager

STE - Star trek enterprise

Are you sure? After all this would be only the subtitle and they probably protected the whole "Thief: The Dark Project" name. Did anyone ever ask?

The Dark Project is still copyrighted, and it wouldn't matter, that's close enough for Eidos' lawyers to descend on us like a ton of bricks, and shut us down.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Okay. I think changing the name is idle speculation anyway, because you are well known as The Dark Mod :)!

I don't know if you guys know who this youtuber is, xRazorFistx

Channel: www.youtube.com/user/xRazorFistx

He's pretty awesome and loves the Thief 1,2,3 games:

And really did not like Thief 4:

Anyways, I messaged him about the Darkmod, thinking he probably wouldn't even both responding.

Well not only did he respond, he did so like an hour later. Here's his response:

Oh, I'm well acquainted with The Dark Mod. Absolutely love it!

And yeah, my editor and I have talked about a Dark Mod review, or possibly a 'Thief fan mission spectacular' or something, with Dark Mod, CoSaS, Thief 2X and all the rest given their proper due. I get asked all the time to recommend fan missions, mods and so forth, so it would be a great chance to cover a lot of ground at once.

Glad you enjoyed the reviews! I also did a review of Thief II: The Metal Age by itself awhile back, it being my favorite game of all-time. Check it out, if you're so inclined, and keep an eye out for a Dark Mod-related video at a very near point in the future.

Godspeed!

-Razör

I'm a little worried as he doesn't pull punches at all, but he says he loved it, so here's hoping we get a glowing review.

I've moved the "game" discussion to its own thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/16095-is-tdm-a-game/

Quick little blurb here. They say they've talked about TDM before, though I don't recall seeing them.

An interview on a Hungarian site where I talk at length about modding, and TDM in particular.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

There is currently an ongoing LP of both Thief 4 and The Dark Mod, made by Bobbin Threadbare from Something Awful. The thread is, unfortunately, hidden beyond the paywall, but the movies are available on YT.

As of today, he managed to cover Tears of St. Lucia and Mandrasola.

He has a really soothing voice, I nearly fell asleep during the briefing -_- He'd be really great for voice overs, tho. And knows the right phrases, too "It's not about the money, but the experience" :D

Just wish the St Lucia playthrough would have been the first playthrough. It's a great showcase, but I'd really liked to know how he played it the first time.

He's quite complimentary.

Haven't watched the second video, but he has every right to be. St Lucia is just a beautyful map, and the mod is just a wonderful piece of work. If you watch that video, there aren't really many things that an AAA game title would have over it - except the marketing department, maybe :) It always amazes me how much we packed into that map and mod and what a wonderful result came out of the hard work. All people involved can't be thanked enough.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
