What's your favorite video game soundtrack?

The first one that comes to mind is the Stars Full from Civ3.

As you know it's a long-term game where you're listening to the same tracks over & over, but I never grew tired of this one --

Then there's the intro song for Stiletto Anyway in Anachronox. Polygonal perfection.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Also, the devil may cry soundtrack is worth mentioning, as it is produced by Noisia, my favorite producerteam of all, usually resonsible for the most devastating Drum & Bass tracks you'll ever hear! :D

I wanted to throw in the DMC3 and possibly 4 soundtracks, and the VTM:B soundtracks, but figured I'd leave them for other people to post :)

is great. I have not even played the game, but I regularly listen to the music. the composer, Alexander Brandon has also worked on Unreal, which is full of odd beauty (
, etc.), Deus Ex, which was comic bookish in a good way, and much more. He currently has a Kickstarter going for a new album!

Generally, I like it when computer games don't try to ape "cinematic" symphonic orchestra music, but do their own thing, exploiting the possibilities of their own medium. That's why people like Ben Daglish, Rob Hubbard or David Whittaker, or the long-dead demoscene still feel more modern than actual modern games.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I like The Witcher (1) and DX:HR soundtracks a lot, especially the tracks that have been posted. However, I would like to mention a game that has a very very very special place in my heart. The news that there will be a HD version of this game and its successor gave me great joy. Without further ado, I present:

No love for the original?

God I love well-done choral music.

I've never played DMC1 or 2, on account of not having a Playstation 2. PSX (the original playstation) was the last time I was a dirty console peasant console player, though I do have a gamepad for my PC which I use for games like DMC4 (DMC3 won't recognise the stick or the dpad, as my gamepad is a cheap ps2 knockoff >_>)

-- Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar are in the habit of commissioning pretty great, fitting, unconventional soundtracks. HEALTH for Max Payne 3 and Tangerine Dream for the best in GTA V were both great choices, but not the kind of stuff you hear in most games nowadays; it's usually faux-orchestral stuff we've all heard a million times before in the same scenarios.

Both these songs take about a minute and a half to get good, but are pretty catchy when they do:

Lovely topic. I'm a soundtrack junkie myself and there's too many songs and soundtracks that I could list... There's no top 10 listings for me with game music.

I'm amazed at times how some songs can play on repeat for ever. I swear, I've listened to the Dwarf Fortress tune for dozens, if not hundreds of hours and even today it does not annoy or bore me:

Epic game - epic soundtrack.

Man, my gf played that game to death. Too bad that I never got the Ultima 5 (?) mod for this game to work.

I love it, but it's damn cathartic when I finally close it and the room goes silent.

Apart from the original Thief's?

I really like the mood pieces in Half-Life 2. The fact I remember them all this time later is testament to how great I found them.

Recently The Last of Us has impressed me with it's mood pieces. Really very delicate and high quality.

And I recently discovered the soundtrack to Electronic Super Joy, which I haven't even played!

I really like this indie game revival and some of the music coming along with it is great. Hotline Miami had a particularly memorable soundtrack, eg.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
