Regarding pickpocketing anyone holding a lamp

So I'm sure Sotha can predict what I'm about to ask, but has anybody had luck pick pocketing a constantly moving target holding a lamp on, say, grass without actually messing about with his AI?

No jamming him, no distractions, no loss in stealth score.

I'm finding it insanely difficult, which isn't a complaint, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any success in this area.

I like to record difficult stealth games, and right now you wonderful people are the only ones delivering on that front.

The only way I could imagine this one working is if the AI has a stationary spot facing away from somewhere you can mantle.

Get just about in range and use the F key to lean-in and pickpocket then immediately mantle out of sight while they react.

I don't recall any missions where you'd have this opportunity but it does sorta sound familiar.

Actually this was in A Step Too Far.

I did this for a video of that mission.

This mission is much more limited in nature, albeit more forgiving sound-wise. Knighton Manor has a bunch of logs at one point but I've tried it and the mantle is too high and slow to allow.

I'm probably going to moss arrow this at the end of the day.

This is probably against your code of conduct, but you can distract a guard without losing stealth score as long as the sound doesn't proceed directly from you.

It does, but the noisemaker arrow is in the level and it actually causes him to drop his lamp.

This works, and I would rather do this than, say, use up money at the store.

It frankly makes far more sense in this context than it would have in the last Thomas Porter level, since the lamp isn't giving me much choice otherwise.

Thanks, definitely helped me make the call.

Cool. It doesn't have to be a noisemaker of course, you can be less disruptive than that. A thrown object or if there are none to hand, even a thrown readable might make him pause and turn his head without dropping anything. But that might not be enough of a distraction to stop him hearing you, I must admit I've never attempted it. I'm always pretty pleased with myself if I make a light bearer drop the light :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
