Mass Effect: Andromeda is dead

Sorry Destined, I admire your sincere attempt at reasoning here, but this is getting ridiculous. Why exactly are you guys trying to argue outlookers' patently insane views? Completely ignoring their absurdity and opting to discuss them only gives the false feeling that they are somehow valid and worth considering. Instead, we should be seriously advising this person to seek help. Like proper help. I mean, the vitriol and delusional paranoia is reaching maximum level. And it must be extremely uncomfortable for any people directly targeted by this hate speech to be reading this in a TDM forum thread.

I would sincerely like to know how any sane and intelligent person can be so cynical, misogynistic and racist. From what I have gathered Outlooker is not stupid, but rather quite educated, which makes it even worse. And if I remember correctly (from another thread), he is German, like me, which makes his white supremacy and racist remarks all the more alarming. We Germans have a history, we can not be proud about. But what I actually take pride in is the fact that we dealt with that history and do our best to educate our children about what went wrong in the past as to not make the same mistakes again. Sadly, this has not stopped a lot of people to repeat past mistakes and the noe-nazi scene is on the rise again (mostly as thinly veiled "legitimate" political parties). And I would find it very interesting to see how people get the opinions they have. The refugee crisis has sparked another outburst of xenophobia and the right wing parties have gained more influence through it (which is also very sad). It is hard to argue against these people, but seeing how they tick might help in future endeavours (although they might well be futile). Outlooker at least claims to be a person of reason, so I try to appeal to that. However, if past discussions has shown one thing, then it is that you cannot change the mind of another person on the internet. It is hard enough in a personal discussion (which would cause similar amounts of text, like the one observed here), as it is easier and quicker to talk, so I will cease my efforts, at least in this thread.

If you ever watched the uk version of the apprentice, you would have noticed nearly every year they have an all male group and an all female group, and nearly every series the male group gets on and does the work they are supposed to do and the female group descends into internal fighting and loads of disagreements and vitriol complaints. So looking at that you can see what is wrong with everything.

And we know Reality TV is a clear and accurate picture of what life is really like.

It seems we can agree on that in the last decade, on average, games became less appealing to us males.
Until about 2008, every year I found a few games I really enjoyed; less so later on.
What happened?
1. Left-wing political ideology was shoehorned into games, openly or subtly.
2. Female developers replaced more and more male developers.
It seems that games, as just another medium, are sensitive to demographic and political (propaganda) influences.
"Strong, empowered" female protagonists suddenly appeared in surprising frequency, even where not believable, like in brutal battle roles
or as middle-age knights.
The black phenomenon coincided with the refugee mass immigration and the exact same effect in other media: Movies, TV Series etc. -
suddenly news presenters, movie heroes, and other high-prestige roles in TV series (doctors, policemen, detectives,...) were mostly all
female or black.
It's like as someone tries to influence the audience to become accustomed to black people as high-status, positively-categorized people instead
of mostly primitive, violent and sub-smart refugees, to change people's thinking and feeling (propaganda) - to subdue opposition to
mass immigration by Africans.
(Video Games specifically)
Women and men derive pleasure from different content.
Women's instincts are about self-presentation, social manipulation and caring roles. Women hate physical competition.
Women abhor shooters, physical fighting games of all kinds, spatial exploration and games about analyzing building structures,
games like Command&Conquer or Heroes of Might and Magic.
Games women desire are much like the Movies and TV series they desire: Soap operas, romances, and everything about decoration and
presentation of their own bodies or living spaces (clothing, makeup, interior decoration, singing, dancing).
The only game I can think of that really exploited those female instincts and was hugely successful is The Sims: A room-
decoration and clothing simulator with big social, soap-opera-like romance and social interaction elements - it sold spectacularly, became one of the most
successful videogames ever, and, another anomaly - was mostly played by females, mostly avoided by males. It was so successful that it became the financial
foundation of EA's dominance in the industry for some time.
Men's instincts are about competition (physical or cognitive), systems, analyzing them, then competing with others to form a dominance hierarchy, trying to
get at the top and then rule (psychologists have named video games for men "achievement porn").
This happens by exploration, physical fighting, complex construction of systems, outsmarting the opponent (analyzing strategies and tactics),
in vehicle simulators (cars, airplanes), sports games, RPGs, 4X games etc. - the vast majority of women sees no point, receives no pleasure from such
games.
There is a correlation of rising numbers of female developers and games becoming more feminine, more disappointing to male players;
and my hypothesis is that there is also a causation.
The games I enjoyed most in the past-
Deus Ex, DMoMM, Dishonored, Thief, Severance Blade of Darkness, CoD Modern Warfare, System Shock, Master of Orion 2, Heroes of Might and Magic III,
Master of Magic, Command and Conquer, Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, Age of Empires, Baldur's Gate, Doom (for a short time when I was a teenager),
Strike Commander, Drakan: Order of the Flame, Mass Effect 1/2/3 (the earlier ones more than the later ones!), ST Bridge Commander, Far Cry, Crysis 2, No One Lives Forever 1/2
and others - were all made by mostly male developers and tickled the male brain's reward center, not that of females, who mostly ignored such games - because they felt no pleasure
or even displeasure playing them.
I propose that this is because of the political agendas of feminism, diversity and multiculturalism. You may roll your eyes, but I think that politics
and certain ideologies have crept into games, that being a central cause for them becoming more disappointing to us.
It's not that I just get older - I STILL do enjoy the older games, and a few newer ones.
The vast majority of newer games offer great graphics, but gameplay and story elements quickly bore me. ME:A being a prime example.
Social gossip interaction, self-presentation, romance options, gay content, endless discussions of feelings at length put me off;
and exploring, fighting, aggression, systems thinking, competing, having to learn actual gameplay skills instead just being presented with an interactive soap opera - the male stuff - feels
like being only an aftertought to the developers anymore, something they had to put in but not really cared for, therefore failing to produce enjoyment in the male audience.

I think you're overanalyzing it. People are drawn and interested in stuff they've been exposed to from childhood. If a girl liked football and played it in teenage years, she will play Fifa whatever we think of that. So today actually variety becomes much more visible and everyone will benefit from this fact. I'm glad that the internet allows changes in developed countries reach poorer ones very swiftly.

Look no further then Ice Pick Lodge to see how an attempt to create complex games that try to appeal aesthetically and use all of that convoluted allegorical stuff was made with quite a few female developers. And their games are horror/strategy/painting/RPG's with micromanagement.

With all due respect, there is no conspiracy or agenda against anyone. We need more mental exercises, more contemplation. Not analysis.

The competition that you talk about is a false impression that is given in the modern world. It does not exist. We don't take it to the grave. You don't even take anger to the grave. We were born in flesh and we die in flesh. Personally I want to make the best use of myself in that regard. For this reason I struggle to understand why you're pushing this narrative.

Left wing people are also people. Until you get in one of the situations of discrimination or whatever they're talking about, you'll never level with them. And that stuff does exist. But it's no reason to be intolerant. At least from a pragmatic perspective. Life isn't worth it. It destroys you from within.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

All theories of "race" are immediately taken down by basic knowledge of biology. Why do people hang on to all these supposed cutting edge research results that so conviniently seem to explain their radical views, when we know deep down its all pseudo science? What we need, really, is basic, school level stuff. Theres one "race", human. Its an african primate. It originated in there, and then spread accross the planet. Thus, everybody, every country, culture, they come from the same place, are variations of the same thing. Thats it. Theres nothing more to it. All other conceptions are simply nonsense. As in, they make no sense. People like outlooker might say that Im simply trying to impose the authoritarian scientific view, that Im not giving alternative views the respect they deserve. But this excuse takes for granted that people like me have taken the scientific view by default, blindly, emotionally, or maybe because of some unknown agenda from my part. The opposite is true. These are not intuitive facts. We are born clueless about what lies behind that which we can see. It would be much easier to accept that differences of skin, appearance, customs, come from a true definitive gap between group A and group B. Its only when you start to actually study, to look for the answers yourself, that these things start to come together and make sense. Thats when you begin seeing the world for what it actually is, past the traditional models you were fed in your infancy, all the cultural misconceptions, and private illusions we were raised with. Thats probably what I should have said to the guy back then. But this is all pretty useless, I suspect.

i saw the video, its just how did the dead eyed non player characters, and players character get past Q & A, and why did they all walk like they had a metal rod stuffed up their bum. Usually when you walk you lean slightly forward, and in animation you lean a character forward a bit further to make it look more real, but in that game they leaned backwards when walking forward.which added to the awkwardness of the characters. Can not see it as a default setting on any type of animation/motion capture program built to handle the games animation, it looks like it was deliberately done to make them all look odd, or done by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

People seem to be completely obsessed with face animations now... i watched a test video of Assassin's Creed Origins yesterday, and they criticized... yep, you guessed it... the face animations! ;) Seems like those are much more important than the game content now. I mean, the visuals of nowadays games are stunning, ESPECIALLY the animations. You can clearly see the focus people put in the games these days. Visuals visuals visuals. And brute sound. Gameplay and content? Subsidiary.

when you've got a game with a lot of in game cutscene's you expect them to be as good as the rest of the game, there seemed to have been some depth to the game overall but it was let down by characters walking oddly and strange facial expressions.

Witcher 3 has lots of depth, and good in game cutscene's and it makes those cutscene's feel as though they belong with the game, while the in game cutscenes in mass effect 4 look plastic.

Well, playing games for centuries now, i still remember the times where there weren't ANY face animations, and the head was just consisting of a few polygons (think Thief Gold, or the early Tomb Raider parts). :) Not sure why people are so obsessed with visuals these days. IMO, there's much more important parts of a game (which unfortunately often fall short these days. Visuals=stunning, gameplay and story=meh). The game data size also exploded, just because of textures and visuals. Not to talk about system requirements. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to have good looking games, but, that's only part of the magic for me. Gameplay and story are MUCH more important for me than the latest generation of super stunning grapics.

E.g. i still enjoy Thief Gold or 2, very much. F*** the visuals, the atmosphere, gameplay, and story of those games make up for that 10 times.

Not sure why people are so obsessed with visuals these days.

The graphics in current AAA titles are that good, that broken animations are instantly noticed because they contrast with the rest. In a way, the graphics are too good for the animations they used them with.

Like a golden Rolex with a plastic wristband.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
