Saves Won't Load - Just Restarts Missions Instead

This may be a known problem, but I didn't find it in a scan through previous topics.

Suddenly when I install old missions and try to load Saves, it just goes to "Press Attack to Start" and restarts the mission instead, on every Save. Apparently I can do new Saves but not load any of the existing ones.

Anyone know how to rectify this? I've tried downloading updates, restarting the computer etc.

Have you updated TDM to a newer version?

If so, then its a known problem.

Saved games from previous versions won't work on newer versions.

This isnt a known problem per se, because those can potentially be fixed. Savegames made with older revs of TDM have a different ordering of saved data, so they cant be understood by subsequent revs.

This is pretty standard for games. (saves made in an old version don't load on the a new one)

if someone update as map between versions, like adding new things, its likly that an old save may break the map, or just not work.

I suppose I was just confusing TDM with Thief fan missions, in which my saves have seemed to survive various upgrades over many years.

What upgrades? Thief, Thief 2 and Thief 3 were all abandoned years ago, whereas TDM is under active development. Are you referring to the various community fixes for T1/T2, such as DDFix, or the recent unofficial patch based on the leaked source code that modernised the engine? I suppose these things didn't change save game loading because they were mostly focussed on the rendering, not mission loading.

 

It does seem that the behaviour in TDM could potentially be made more obvious from a user perspective, however. Perhaps an in-game GUI or message could indicate that the save game is incompatible and warn the user that they will have to restart, rather than just restarting with no explanation?
