Install TDM on Windows 10

I've been playing TDM for a few years, but after my laptop updated itself to Windows 10 I couldn't open the game. I tried uninstalling it and then couldn't reinstall it. I can download the updater but when I go to run it I get this message.

When I try to make the folders not read-only I uncheck the box but when I reopen the folder it is back to read-only. I am using the administrator account (I'm pretty sure) and changed the permissions on the folder but it hasn't worked yet. I'm not very tech savvy so any help would be appreciated. I really miss playing TDM!

You have to change this in the "security" tab, not in tab "general"
righ click on the darkmod folder > preferences > tab "security > edit > select users > full control

Or if you have any difficulties installing tdm, use my Freyks unofficial installer (from the download page)
This will guide you trough the installation procedure, set the write permissions, gives you shortcuts, a nice uninstaller, etc)

just saying that when windows 10 does a update it may reset the program files directories back to read only, or an easy way to avoid that is to create a directory outside of those two directories and install the darkmod to that directory.

There are differences between file/folder "attributes" and "permissions".
Most of the time i see that tdm and his updater has problems with the folder permissions.

Thanks, stumpy. That's a good idea. Since I've already installed it should I move the TDM folder to a new directory or will that disrupt the game? The game is working now but as you said the next time my laptop updates it may change to read-only.

Windows 10 never changed any folder permissions here...

those are file atributes, stumpy.

No papawegg, this doesnt corrupt things, because TDM write the data in his own folder.
But make it writeable for all users, otherwise you can not write files in the tdm folder.
