What is a sparrow anyway?

Wow, they shot a sparrow cause it disrupted their little game of dominoes

If you have dinner with any of those guys from Endemol NV, make sure you kill their dog if it sniffs your shoes...

Yep, they're definately assholes for killing it.the reporter sounds kinda proud that they shot it when it was "cowering in a corner". Pretty cruel imo.

The bird was shot by an exterminator with an air rifle while cowering in a corner.

Conjures up a rather hilarious mental image IMO. How on earth does a bird 'cower'? Did it know what was going on? :D

Perhaps we should make this mod SparrowHawk: Domino Derby! You try to knock as may as you can down without being spotted by the guards and their sniper rifles. A real test of Doom 3 physics.

Bastards. Could have left the bird alone. Like killing a mockingbird...

How big is a sparrow?

And what is a sparhawk?

Yes it would have been better if it had knocked the whole thing down. What kind of person can find solace in dominoes, yet has no empathy for the life of a cowering sparrow?

Had the dead sparrow fallen on more dominoes, which led up to a sniper rifle and trigger it in some hilarious way, knocking the domino person over and causing a huge domino rally of human bodies until the entire congregation were slain, justice would be served.

omglol mac...

@Forsaken: A sparrow is a very small bird about 15cm long from head to tail, depending which type. I don't know wtf a sparhawk is..

Well, a google search on the word "sparhawk" revealed some of the following possibilities:

The most pertintent of which I believe is:

Well, that is the regular bird flying everywhere... And if you translate our word of sparrow it will be "Hit the Thief". Quite a coincedence, isn't it..?

I suppose sparhawk is the only person who can tell us what his nickname means.

The topic is quite offtopic. Does anyone remember why I revived it?

So it is a bird, it is a hawk, and looks pretty much as a sparrowhawk. So how do you know David Edding's sparhawk wasn't just a shortened word for sparhawk?

The etymology of sparhawk might be quite different to sparrowhawk, though you may be right in thinking it is a contraction. I suspect however that sparhawk is simply the amalgamation of two words "spar", meaning to fight, and "hawk", a small raptorial bird. some species of hawk are known to spar or fight amongst each other over mates etc, so a sparhawk could be a fighting hawk (it is considered a 'sport' in some cultures to get a pair of hawks and make them fight each other).

So David Eddings might have chosen the name for a character that is a fighter on the basis of being inspired by a fighting hawk.

Just a guess.

I just installed Thief Gold on my notebook, and after playing some time I realized, that by standing in an area where my lightgem is completely dark, I'm fully invisible. In fact, I can only be seen if the guard is running somewhere and I'm hiding in front of him. Otherwise, I'm fully hidden, it doesn't even require time to pass. That makes the game more interesting, though, but not realistic... So will TDM have such invisibility in shadows, or it's something buggy from Thief Dark Project?

It's not really a bug, so much as a gameplay mechanic. The idea behind the gem is not only to show how much shadow you're in but to let you know when you are completely hidden. Garrett was once training to be a 'keeper' and keepers are only seen, when they want to be...so there is a little more to it than shadows.

Guards will see you if they get close enough however and when they do...you better watch out. :)

Should I give you a screenshot when a guard stands next to me suspecting nothing?

You are completely hidden in Thief when your lightgem is completely black. That corresponds to standing in pitch darkness (although for gameplay reasons the actual light might be a bit brighter than pitch black). The guards don't "see" you when they run toward you and they're in your way, they bump into you, that's how they detect you in pitch blackness.

Well, if he is at full alert and he does not bump into me, he won't see me. I blackjacked half the guards like that when they all started running after the released prisoners . Difficulty expert, or I'll just kill everybody...

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
