Coffers

The furniturestyle links require a registration? Otherwise there are some nice references. :)

I'm not sure either, but I always thought coffer meant the same thing as a chest you keep money in?

If you look up "coffer," there's some architectural definitions, and then for chests you get things like this:

By strict definition, a coffer is a travelling trunk which is banded by metalwork and covered with leather or other material. However, the word tends to be used to describe various kinds of chests without drawers.

A joined and panelled low chest, usually of oak, with a lid.

now used for any chest with a lid on top, once used for a travelling trunk

Hmm, interesting. Not sure why you'd be requested to log in. I wasn't logged into anything ~

As for coffer, yes, they seeme to be smaller, sometimes more ornate or delicate chests. Like overgrown jewelry boxes, in some respects.

I always thought coffers were like money purses or something. Oops!!!

Maybe the link is broken? I just tried it again and I always get an error telling me to log in first before accessing that link. Might also be that you have to browse through the main site and it gives you a temporary cookie which doesn't work when going directly to the link?

Strange. I've double-checked the links three times now, including just now after clearing my cookies and temporary internet files. No issues here. Oh well, I just searched Google Images for "coffers" to find these. If you're curious to see more, try doing that.

Crazy! :) Maybe it doesn't like my IP or what?

Just checked it again and I always get the same errormessage.
