Coins - Gold/silver

Why don't we use actual historical coins, to keep the feel of the time period? I found several victorian coins that are ready for use, including this one:

Edit: a few more:

Here's another cool batch of Egyptian coins...might be neat to include the bottom two for some variety. Perhaps to put in ancient ruin missions.

Darkness has well and truley proved his artistic ability there.

I also agree on using real historical ones as a reference. I hope you don't mind drawing some new ones based on them, even though your original designs look good! Can't fault the actual artwork style at the moment though.

(edit)Although... Darkness' ones have a more fanciful look about them - the world of Thief is very fantastic (fantasy-like), and it could suit.

Maybe a blend of both Darkness' first ones, and the realistic ones?

The historical ones are perfectly centered and just waiting to be run through a normalmap filter. There's no point in redrawing them...we just have to choose which ones we like the best.

well actually no. they still have to be tweaked a bit, cauze auf the reflections. not much work though. I could do that pretty quick.

These two are my favorites:

Agreed. One could be silver and one gold. And then there is that funky egyptian one we could always include for foreign coins, if it matters.

On second thought, that might be silly...chances are you won't make out any of the details anyway.

Lol. Be my guest. I don't think anyone will be able to read it in-game though. Too small. :)

...There's no point in redrawing them...

Well I wouldn't say that...

Re-drawing them can give us our own style. And avoid some person playing, going "hey, they ripped off that image from blah", and ruin immersion for them. I remember someone complaining about how the Finnish military (lion) logo appeared in Thief 3.

It makes you think these people are just searching the net and using any image that looks "cool". Because that's what it is. It ruins the atmosphere, you stop beleiving as much.

It's not super-important, but I wouldn't say there's "no point" in re-drawing them...

Well, keep in mind that these coins will be slightly bigger than a thumbprint. Not exactly something that's going to be that noticeable, even if there are history students playing. (the only people liable to recognize coins from the 18th century....)

yes, it'll be really small ingame, but there're always some crazy guys, who find such eastereggs ;)

here we go - reduced the relections and added LGS:

That's awsome! that would be perfect for the coins.

And in a side tangent-i'm making progress. (shameless self-plug)

Of the ones posted, I preferred this one most:

Was thinking a Hammer symbol could replace the lady.

EDIT: On 2nd viewing, maybe it's not a lady. LOL.

that'd look cool, too. maybe we can use that for the copper coins. (remember there were always 3 types of coin stacks in T1/2: gold, silver and copper ;) )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
