Video Card Recommendations

6800s are great B) Although I had to relock the hidden pipelines because of artifacts in max & maya :(

Given the performance I've gotten so far, I probably won't bother unlocking the pipelines...things are pretty sweet as is. :)

I'm really not used to this type of gaming. I installed Far Cry, maxed the settings as high as they would go. No slow down, no stutter...and my system is pretty humble. It's just and athlon xp 2000+ and 1 gig of ram.

When I got my Dell 9400 with the 7800 Go 256MB vid card, I did the same thing. I kept turning things up and up and up and they looked amazing. I then went and reinstalled all my older games that I was never able to play at high res.

Man those times are great.

Glad this worked out well for you.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Far Cry is actually pretty efficient and can run on somewhat low systems.

Now you can use the video card advanced settings to crank up the AA to 4x or 8x and the AF to 8x or 16x and still run T2 in 1600x1200!

Yeah, I was truly surprised how great Far Cry runs, I've got it maxed out now...and it's a smooth as silk. I used to run it with the majority of the settings on low...the odd setting would be medium. Never ran this well though. Even T3 is running flawlessly now...or at least the levels I've tried. I haven't unlocked the other pipelines yet...not sure I really need to yet.

I've read (I think) that there is a small risk that you could damage the card if you try, even if you change it back afterwards. That may not be true, but I would research it much more before trying, and if there is no real need then why chance anything.
