Darkradiant 1.0 Roadmap

Recommended Posts

32-bit looks and operates just fine.

I spent about 5 hours on it creating new maps, editing bits of old maps, and expanding on my WIP.

New tiny features and tweaks are very useful (clone creates its copy offset from the original, Entity Inspector no longer retains info in the textbox when selecting a new entity.) The new color coding is also nice. I can now differentiate between path (purple) and lightswitch (orange) targets! Color-coded light entities are also a very useful feature for matching the color of a light with the color of a fixture.

Most importantly: no bugs, anomalies, or nitpicks to report so far.

Wasn't that added intentionally, to allow copying keyvalues between entities? Or is there a better way of doing this now?

Not anymore. I was selecting a path_corner_1's "name" keyvalue so I could promptly enter it as the target of path_corner_2.

Reproduction method

1. Select ent_1.

2. Select ent_1's "name" spawnarg. (text boxes change to show "name" "ent_1")

3. ESC to deselect ent_1. (textboxes still have "name" "ent_1")

4. Select ent_2.

5. Textboxes have changed to "name" "ent_2"

I could get used to either method, but the previous is useful for quickly setting up path_corner targets and adding noshadows spawnargs while optimizing.

Damn, confirmed. Property name is retained, but second selected entity's value populates the field.

It's fixed now. This was due to another bugfix I added to address the entry boxes not being updated when a property is changed using the specialised editor below the fields. Expect it to be fixed in the final 1.0.0 release.

No success with the 32 bit. I get a configuration error message if I try to run it. I uninstalled and deleted the folder from documents and settings and tried again but with the same result. I notice it hasn't created a new folder in documents and settings.

Is there something else one needs to do when first installing?

Oh my, that sourceforge website has gained at least three levels of crappiness since the last DarkRadiant release. There is no proper file management system anymore (instead they went crazy with useless AJAX features) and I seem to be unable to send out the release announcement on the mailing list. That, and a completely illogical navigation approach makes that site nearly unusable. What a fail!

At least I am no longer alone in hating SF :P Just a few days ago I ended up with a few HTML files because I quickly clicked "Save link as", "downloaded" a few things, and hurried of - only to be fooled by their "you have choosen to download blah from blurg" intermidiate page.....

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
