I'm Officially Under Demonic Oppression

I know some of you probably suspected this already, but I am now officially one of the children of Beelzebub.

According to a religious group my country is under "demonic oppression" and "many curses" because of the national flag, Y Ddraig Goch.

The party's leader, the Rev George Hargreaves, said, "We will not allow this evil symbol of the devil to reign over Wales for another moment.

"Wales is the only country in history to have a red dragon on its national flag.

"This is the very symbol of the devil described in The Book of Revelation 12:3.

"This is nothing less than the sign of Satan, the devil, Lucifer that ancient serpent who deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

"No other nation has had this red dragon as its ruling symbol.

"Wales has been under demonic oppression and under many curses because of this unwise choice."

Funny, your stick worshipers think your flag is the mark of the devil, our stick worshipers think our flag is the Face of God....

I think it's because Welsh culture still has strong links with pre-Christian paganism. When Christianity came to Britain it demonised many pagan mythical gods and creatures (such as the nature god Cernunnos and dragons), so a lot of the characters in our ancient myths are now interpreted by christians as evil. A prime example of this is the big fuss when we made the Archbishop of Canterbury a member of the Order of the Druids.

Yes, another example of misunderstood iconography.

Dragons still have a good connotation in the East; shame they lost that in the West.

I'd think there are flags that are worse, though. In fact, I think a lot (if not most) flags have a little tainted pedigree somewhere or another.

Turkey's flag is apparently (a metaphor for) the crecent moon that Ataturk saw reflected in the pool of British blood on the eve of its independence struggle from being a UK mandate.

The German flag, I've heard, is the transformation from the black darkness of foreign rule to the gold glory of independence through the red blood of its struggle for independence ... or something.

My personal favorite is Mozambique, which literally has an AK-47 emblazoned right in the middle, lol. Not much ambiguity there.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

No, they think our capital is the mythical city on the hill of Revelations fame. These people are retarded. Did I mean it's these same people that are currently in the White House? <_<

Madmen and women, all. I wish I were under demonic possession, I would immediately start fucking with the nearest Bleever, making their crucifixes dance around the room, putting LSD drops in their sodas, hiding their car keys...

But is the City on the Hill from Revelations? I thought it was some Pilgrim nonsense or something.

I've learned black, red and gold represent gunpowder, blood and fire respectively. Fuck me if I know why the hell we would choose that, though.

Ausrtian flag is Red, White, Red. Herzog Leopold V was supposed to have fought in a war in the 3rd crusade, and he wore a white coat. And after the battle it was red with blood, only under his belt it stayed white. That was the supposed reason why we have that flag now. But according to wikipedia, it's not true and it was just the colors of the Babenbergers. So much for history lessons in school. ;)

Well, it seems to be one of the oldest flags still in use though. :) Since around 1230. :)

The german flag seems to come from the napolean wars according to wikipedia. Well, not everything written there is neccessarily true, so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe our teacher in history was still right and the austrian flag was really from that story from the crusade. ;)

Heh. The Australian flag is one of the few that looks obvious to interpret when you see it, if you know anything about the country. We have the British flag in the top-left corner (former British colony), and the rest of the flag is the Southern Cross (very recognisable constellation, was used for sea navigation IIRC, and it's only visible in the southern hemisphere) on a blue background (presumably the sky). None of this convoluted metaphor stuff. :P

The New Zealand flag is exactly the same except with red stars instead of white. Gets a bit confusing sometimes when watching the Olympics on TV - you have to peer to see which colour the stars are... :D

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

@Macsen - I'm more interested in what they plan to do about this demonic oppression. Are they going to burn down all the chinese restaurants too?

I think they plan on replacing the current flag with that of St David, Wales' patron saint. It's a gold cross on a black background.

Why they'd want to replace the best flag in the world is beyond me. It's supposed to go back to Roman times.

The flag of Owain Glyndwr is also a popular one in Wales:

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
