Doom 3 Engine?

Well I know D3 Engine had the best engine and shadow renderer but one question though...

Doom 3 never had any waters! A small blood pond I saw in D3 represented the the Freshnel reflections with a series of moving textures.

Thief 3 does has waters! And not only that but swimming too!

A question is this... Are you going to include Reflective and Refractive water in The Dark Mod and even Freshnel reactions or leave it as it is? It's just that these had gone standard these days and it would hit bad a plain water surface...

TDS water was mostly knee-deep. I don't know if that counts for swimming. ;)

You might want to take a look at this:

This is an upper part of our bonehoard level. I've been playing around with water this time (and a poor little zombie... :P ).

You must have played a different T3 then me, because my copy didn't have any swimmable water. It had a few rivulets, not worth mentioning, but certainly no swimmable water. The only big body of water let you die immediately, if you entered it.

It wasn't in the game, but the engine can produce water. It was one of the first mods the doom 3 community produced.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information. Thief 3 water is nothing but a simple texture effect..there is absolutely no water physics and there is certainly NOT any swimming in Thief 3. I'm guessing you haven't played Thief 3, otherwise you would know that the lack of swimming was one of the big issues fans had.

There are many options for water in the D3 engine. You have to go with whatever gives you the best performance. I would take performance over pretty water effects.

Ahem, about Thief 3 having waters.... My mistake!

I wanted to write Thief 2, but I dumped... Stupid mistyping...

Well I was asking because it would be easier for Doom programmers to create a blood pond using game engine rather than using textures! And trust me - if you havent noticed that in the game - I got as close as I could, to see myself if this was a water refraction or not! Still seems strange to me....

Are you going to handle swimming similarly to T2 style?

E.g., with the movement, a decreasing bubble bar, no weapon use, the sound and vision filters, etc.

I agree with that -- for a game where sensitivity to the environment is so important and water is something to be used, not just looked at.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Yup, it's been in place for some time. Vision filters are still not complete, but that's something for detailing later down the road.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
