I just upgraded to Mac OS 10.4 & the Safari browser has a RSS button. So I clicked it while I was on TTLG:

loccinaucinihilipilification?

EDIT: That's actually a word?

the categorizing of something as worthless

Actually it's floccinaucinihilipilification, starts with an f.

There was a Geico (car insurance) commercial that used this word recently, in something like a mock spelling bee. And ever since that commercial, people have been throwing this word around.

I actually looked up the entymology for it because when you see a word like that, you want to know where it comes from. First, you have to know that the word was coined as a joke.

It's like 4 separate Latin words strung together that each mean "utterly worthless" in their own colorful way (it's like worthless-useless-nothingness-an abomination), in the form "to make as..." or yeah, probably better: "to categorize as..." or "to deem as...". Apparently, there was some literature club at Oxford in the 1880s that coined it as a joke for their literary journal when they really wanted to pompously insult somebody's work. It was like the motto for the journal, what they liked to do. (Their version had hyphens between each Latin word, as well ... it was more like a phrase than a single word per se.) To me, the story sounds like an example of about the most pretentious a group of humans can possibly get, the kind of prank Frasier Craine might have pulled.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I'm guessing this: http://holophonichaircut.ytmnd.com/

Holophonic is a carefully mastered sound file that sounds 3 dimensional when you listen to it on headphones.

Somebody just did it for a haircut.

There was a discussion about it at TTLG on that matchbox holophonic file, so that was the link.

To me, it sounds a little like what you'd call Max Headroom getting for his hair-style, though.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
