Great Work Isp

I wanted to upgrade my bandwitdh to a 3000/384 kbit line so my server is better suited for the work on the darkmod. So far my ISP accepted this and it should have been done on 15. December. Of course I didn't really believe this, and as I thought it didn't happen. After calling several times when this will happen they now finally managed to switch my line. But not to the requested bandwith. Instead they switched me to a new tarif where I have exactly the same speed as I had all the time. Great! And the best to come. The managed to disable my phone in the process.

My ISP is very reliable when the connection works. In four years I had only two three outages and only one them took about a day. All others were already solved when I got through to the hotline (meaning less then 15 minutes usually). But when it comes to changing some configuration my ISP sucks really big. :(

So it seems I won't even have a phone over christmas. Nice! At least thy didn't switch off my DSL, so I can still be online. Which is more important anway. :)

Well, on a happier note, I finally got my DSL today. 112kb/sec instead of 5kb = I'm off to download some stuff. I think this means I can download about 8 gigabytes a day now

I've a lot of downloads to do, then I have to reformat my HD, but I've got about 40 gigs of stuff to burn to CDs frst, so I'll be out of action for a while...

  • 2 weeks later...

Now they managed to finally "upgrade" my bandwidth. I told them in one phonecall that I need 3000/384 and each time he confirmed that he will switch to 1000/128. Today I tested my bandwidth and I noticed that it has been switched finally. Guess which bandwidth they "upgraded" me to. 1000/128! Yes! Which means I have the "GREAT ADVANTAGE" of having EXACTLY THE SAME upspeed that I had before.

It is really lucky that phones exist, otherwise I might get arrested for murder. I certainly don't know how many times I have to repeat 3000 so that they will understand it.:angry:

SWEET LORD!! They're STILL messing you around on that? That's terrible. :( After doing outsourced phone support for one of the larger American companies for 2 1/2 years...I know the incompetance that sometimes resides in the internet industry. I don't know how many times I, the lowly phone tech, corrected mistakes of the admins who were supposed to know what they were doing. Gah.

In that case it was more a problem of the representive that is supposed to take on my requests. Of course I also phoned a tech, and after telling him that I did NOT want the 1000 line they still switched this one on. The worst thing is that I'm working for this company myselve and I can't do a thing about it.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
