New internal test version

I've got a new test version available for you, Fidcal. It's an 64-bit build for now, I didn't recompile it for Win32 yet.

Changes:

- New Window layout handling (faster switching without restart, new layout named "Embedded").

- This also includes code from my experimental branch, which should be parsing the materials and sound shaders considerably faster than the previous versions.

Materials Media, Entities, Models all very fast. The last version was acceptable but I think this is faster. Switching between child windows seem to work more smoothly. Most noticeably when I used to click one of the tabs on Entity Inspector etc after focusing on another window it would not work and I had to click the title bar first. Now it seems to work better. Still sluggish pulling out of an input field on say entity list to say entity inspector needing a 2 or 3 clicks sometimes but tolerable. See how it goes over the next few days. Ah - I see default descriptions showing in my custom entity OK. Good.

Of course, as there's no 32 bit version yet. I just compiled a new snapshot for Fidcal (and I knew he's on Vista 64).

 

There will be a new snapshot for all of you soon, I'm just in the middle of coding the scripting support and I want to get to a decent state of code first.

Okay :) Just for the record, I'm using 9.9 right now and when I maximize the entity window it no longer works. It has that strange error where it copies the image of whatever is inside it. In addition I still cannot resize the entity window. It's so big I can't find the okay button.

I intend to release the new DarkRadiant version 0.9.11 this upcoming weekend. Betamappers and everybody else using DarkRadiant, please test these versions. In principle they should be quite stable, but as there were some major changes under the hood, I want to make sure.

After 0.9.11 is released, I'll be back to coding for the main mod.

Yes, the Window Layout is accessible via the View > Window Layout menu now. Does this work for you?

 

You can also create new grid views by choosing View > New XY View or hitting Ctrl-Alt-N in floating layout.

 

I guess the new release needs a reasonable default for the Window Layout, so that users don't run into an empty DarkRadiant.

Camera view just stopped redrawing. I've not seen that before so maybe this is an embedded thing too. The problem I used to have was the background buttons etc not redrawing but I think you must have fixed that as I can't remember seeing if for quite a while.

 

BTW this camera thing failed while I was trying to move along a point file leak line so hit several buttons as I can never quite remember its shift ctrl alt K & L something like that. :) So I may have hit some bad keys. I'll try changing to floating and back to see if it clears it.

 

[EDIT] Crashed out trying to change to floating while camera not redrawing. Error is:

 

libs\signal\signal.h:341

assertion failure

SignalBase::disconnect:invalid id

 

[EDIT 2] Repeated camera failed when I tried Ctrl Shift K

Confirmed. No problem if there is no leak but soon as I force a leak, dmap, then show pointfile and Ctrl Shift K it jumps to the start of the line in ortho view but locks the camera. In fact although I can still move and zoom orthoview, Dr has actually crashed out. If I try to close it I get the error message.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
