Back again... probably only to disappear for at least another fortnight. Must be nominative determinism.

I'm probably late and all but does anyone know what is the ambiance called in 2001: A Space Odyssey during Dr Heywood's team fly over the surface of the moon that was apparently borrowed into the Thief games?
AndersonImprovisation at its best!
Sep 17 2017 12:27 PM
AndersonActually the Auldale Sountrack has it a lot in the end.

EpifireNot sure what the name of that sequence is directly in Space Odyssey but there's a name for that kind of harmonic layering. Good thing I can't think of what it's called either tho :P

I got a hard drive that vibrates so much that you can feel it on the outside of the PC case! Is that a bad sign? It is brand new. But damn, I never saw one induce so much vibration.
New Horizon@Biker - But he said it's a brand new drive. Perhaps defective?

Anyone else fail to get TDM 2.05 to run in latest Wine? (it used to run great)
kanonevermind, thedarkmod.exe did not get updated by the Linux updater, leading to trouble when trying to run it in wine. Running the Windows TDM updater fixed it.

BikerdudeHave you also tried having a play with PlayOnLinux..?
Sep 02 2017 11:43 AM
I'm running Linux and Windows on Ryzen side by side with VGA passthrough. I couldn't pass a USB hub into the VM though, so I had to make the power button on the case detach the keyboard/mouse from the VM, using a script. lol With VGA passthrough, you can't use a traditional escape sequence like you would with VMware.
Bikerdudesurely thats just a case of drivers? or if not that a replacement KVM?

Several unfinished projects yet here I'm starting another mission...Gonna try my home made modules :)
DiegoWhat's that? starting a new project while you have a lot of unfinished ones? Nope, never done that before.
Aug 22 2017 02:34 PM
FieldmedicWhen you finish every started project and paint all your unfinished models you will die ;)
Aug 23 2017 12:08 PM
SothaOn second though... maybe I leave some unfinished FMs lying around my HDD. Cheap life insurance! ;)

Test the new GLSL interaction shader: "r_ignore2 1" in the svn .exe
New HorizonIndeed. It crashes for me as well. Any progress on this?

By the way, I know some people mentioned improving lighting skills, and I finally found an article that actually discusses some of the theory behind lighting that I can comprehend: http://www.blog.radiator.debacle.us/2015/03/lighting-theory-for-3d-games-part-2.html
JudithHe kind of repeats all the stuff I got saved in presentations elsewhere (he uses some of them as quotes in his articles), but that's ok.
Aug 20 2017 06:43 AM
SothaI think he says mostly obvious things... but might be a good read to a person new to mission design.
Aug 20 2017 12:12 PM
jaredmitchellYeah, demagogue, in part 5 of the article he mentions The Dark Mod because of how it undoes the hard shadow features of idTech4, which is pretty neat.
And mostly I had issues with other materials being circulated here in regard to lighting because they didn't really explain the function of lighting and its placement.

Might be of interest: http://nothings.org/gamedev/thief_rendering.html
GameDevGoroone of my favorite reads :) buuut it also makes me a bit frightened at how robust these systems become, even though they are built far from robust. It's some kind of magic, for sure haha. Like you have ways of calculating things that are errorprone, but because they are, they don't show up in the game. they were simply avoided/worked around. Rock solid, but not really :D

How can we get a copy of the KOMAG fan mission archive for the Thief series? Could someone set it up on Mega or something? I think they provide 50GB for free, which is quite high, surely high enough.
