SpringheelGreat job! That was very well written.

nbohr1moreThanks guys. Sorry for the grammar mistakes. I tried to get the article up quickly while my family was out on the town. I'll be updating it with a few more changes shortly.

STiFUI had a giggle at the pseudo-quote of me regarding low obstacle mantling. :-D Good article! :-)

I'm holding out for TDM 3.11 for Workgroups
duzenkoYou mean "for gangs?"

Petike the Taffer
I'd like to make an Ambients database that lists all the ambient assets currently available in TDM, for mapping purposes. I would like to ask whether it would be all right to use some public sound storage and playback site (e.g. SoundCloud, maybe ?) to upload short samples of these ambients ? As previews for the database overview. Feedback on this idea needed !
Petike the TafferI do have some info on the customs assets already offered here on the site and recommended external sites, but those are wholly separate articles, established almost a year ago.
Feb 02 2019 02:49 PM
Petike the TafferHere's the repository of addon audio assets (sounds, ambients, etc.): http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Sound_addons_repository Only stuff that is not in the base game, for the sake of interested mappers.
Feb 02 2019 02:52 PM
Petike the Tafferhttp://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Ambient_Database Here's the current version of the database. No sound samples yet, that needs to be negotiated and thought about first. If there have been any additions to the ambient .pk4s in 2.06 and 2.07, feel free to expand the DB.

I'm thinking about buying a cheap Radeon card and HDMI switcher to toggle between NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. Does it sound like a feasible setup?
stgatilovIt seems that the choice is between RX550 and R240 (there is also very cheap R230, which is pre-GCN card).
Feb 02 2019 01:43 AM
JetrellThere's a good reason why the R230 is so cheap and it's basically because it's a pre-GCN card. If your budget allows, I'd get the R240 card but the RX550 is fine also.

duzenkoI'd think about a laptop with a Ryzen IGP

I just noticed Bikerdude was banned? When? What happened? He was one of the long standing members and content creator :O

Comparing older versions TDM 1.02 = 30 FPS vs TDM 2.07 over 80 FPS. Same mission same hardware. 2.07 with all eye-candy.
nbohr1moreStill waiting for more respondents here:
Jan 24 2019 02:54 PM
stgatilovOh wait... is this the version where lightgem was processed by capturing screenshot into a named pipe?
Jan 26 2019 12:06 AM
Suprisingly, tdm_lg_split works really well in 1.02. To think of all the extra performance I could've had when playing back then...

Kinda feel naked without my Doom-Guy-Avatar. :D
STiFUWell, as I recently said, it's kinda weird that you have known all these people for so long, but you know none of their faces. So here we are now! :-)

Petike the Taffer"Habit is an iron shirt" (mail shirt ?), goes an old saying in my country. ;-)

EpifireYeah that always spins me out when people change avatars. Pretty sure as long as my name is Epi, then the Thief font logo shall remain :P

Two things about TDM I learned yesterday: 1) You can look away in the middle of a lock-picking-sequence and continue right where you left off if you keep pressing the frob button. You are not reset to the last tumbler you unlocked when doing that. 2) You can actually cancel bow-draw by pressing the "block"-key. I feel like I knew #2 once, but I must've forgotten. It amazes me that after all these years, you still discover new stuff about the game!! :-D

I dare you to hit "R".
Jan 19 2019 12:22 AM
kanoThere used to be a funny bug where you could hit yourself with your own sword by swinging it at a specific angle. I told Springheel about it and he fixed it.
Jan 19 2019 02:23 PM
chakkman@jaxa: Well, now i know that as well. ;)

So Wine on Android is now a thing, meaning that you could play Thief TDP on your Android phone. No Direct3D support as far as I know, because mobile devices only implement OpenGL ES, which is a subset of OpenGL.
Jan 17 2019 10:52 AM
jaxaToo bad my older Chromebook doesn't support Android or Linux. But some ChromeOS users could be able to use that to play TDP/TMA.

I caught a flu, so won't appear here in the nearest days/week. As a matter of fact, playing beta207-05 is the best thing to do right now =)
stgatilovThank you for kind words! They worked: the worst part ended much quicker than I expected =)

Would the skyglow amplification caused by falling/fallen snow be a visual factor in TDM missions (or cities from hundreds of years ago)? Or is it only noticeable with today's modern lighting?
AluminumHasteSkyglow is caused by modern lights yes.
Jan 14 2019 08:37 AM
STiFUThe only questions you should ask yourself is: Does it look better with or without skyglow? :-)
Jan 15 2019 01:26 PM
chakkmanIn a fantasy setting, i guess it could always be caused by magic. :)
Jan 16 2019 10:42 AM
Didn't we have a download statistic or similar somewhere? A friend of mine asked how many people actually play tdm, so I wanted to show him some statistics. :-)
freykand tell him that we dont have multiplayer and show him the stats of the tdm missions.
Jan 07 2019 12:22 AM
BienieDem. How does the in game downloader work? Does it have its own server or does it choose a mirror at random? I think it would be cool if the admins would share their stats at some intervals. Maybe in the Internal Development forum, for both missions and downloading the game itself. :)
Jan 09 2019 06:30 AM
demagogueI don't know. The source code is publicly available, so you could look it up if you're ok at deciphering code (usually not as hard as it sounds). As for the admins, I was thinking someone just PM them periodically to ask and then post the answer. It's just a matter of a big fan taking the initiative really.

Weird pipedream of the day: I wish TDM had AI "arm wrestling" support
EpifireSo wait, AI vs AI? Or the player gets to challenge the NPC to an, "arms race"?
The player option goes down really hilarious in my head. xD
Jan 06 2019 11:51 PM
nbohr1moreOh, now I want both options! LOL! I was thinking of an AI vs AI arm wrestling contest with other AI gathered around watching them.
