MayaImportx86.dll for Maya 8.5

There is the possibility that the Maya7 paths are overriding the Maya85 ones in the PATH environment variable. Can you remove/replace the Maya7 portions in the PATH and try again?

This is what my PATH contains:

...;D:\ProgVista\Maya85;D:\ProgVista\Maya85\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;...

I notice I have one more variable: MAYA_LOCATION, which might be crucial (not entirely sure):

MAYA_LOCATION D:\ProgVista\Maya85

Ok, getting the same error, with the virtual function call mentioned. All references to Maya 7 have been changed to 8.5. In the path directory, i had to change the 8.5 location to include \bin, instead of leaving it with Maya8.5 at the end. Also the MAYA_PATH locations include the /bin as well.

I tried to change the MAYA_PATH to exclude the bin, so both \Maya8.5 and \Maya8.5\bin were mentioned. No change.

Vista has a section for "User variables for [name of user]" and another section for "System variables".

I have

User variables

MAYA_PATH : e:\program files (x86)\autodesk\maya8.5\

System:

MAYA_PATH : e:\program files (x86)\autodesk\maya8.5\

Path : E:\program files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya8.5\bin

For the record:

The main window title is: "Visual C++ Runtime Lbrary", which contains:

Runtime Error!

Program: E:\Program Files (x86)\DARK MOD\DOOM3Ded.exe

R6025

-Pure virtual function call

The last couple of entries in Process Monitor before in give the error are:

Open/Read/Close file -E:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Maya8.5\scripts\others\stopIprRendering.mel -SUCCESS

-regOpenKey -HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\Escalation - Name not found

DOOM3Ded.exe? The dedicated server? Aren't you launching the game using tdmlauncher? Very weird.

I probably need to test that on a different machine with Maya 8.5 and without visual studio, if you can't get it to run.

Hm, I'm happy to look into that if that speeds up your workflow.

If you're willing to try, please uninstall Maya 7 and re-install Maya 8.5 to make sure everything is set up correctly. I'm still confused about the Doom3Ded.exe - it should be Doom3.exe only, not the DED one. How are you launching TDM?

Also, where are you placing your MayaImportx86.dll? I recommend putting it right next to DOOM3.exe, so that the engine can find it immediately.

One more try: use the link in the first post to download another version, this time I included the mfc80.dll module in the ZIP, which seems to be required for Maya 8.5.

Plus, the MAYA_LOCATION variable is mandatory, be sure to have that added to your environment.

And another thought: make sure you don't have a FM installed - otherwise the exporter tries to load something like C:\Games\Doom3\outpost\models\model_src\proguard\proguardmesh_export.mb, which will not work of course.

It's important to run the game with a +set fs_game darkmod parameter, fs_game_base won't work (got a crash here).

No, I don't think. If you have a FM installed, then tdmlauncher puts in +set fs_game_base darkmod and +set fs_game , so this won't work I guess. If no FM is installed, the tdmlauncher will put in +set fs_game_base only, which doesn't work (though I can make it work in the future.)

I'm pretty sure you need to manually start it with the proper command line.

On a related note, I tracked down a crash when exporting the meshes, the MayaImportx86.dll expects the shaders in the .mb file to be absolute file paths, but some shader is using tdm_npc_hand - this crashes the exporter, so I'm currently working on a fix for that. Stay tuned.

Ok, new version is up, use the link in the first post.

As summary:

- Put MayaImportx86.dll and mfc80.dll next to your Doom3.exe

- Make sure The Maya85\bin folder is in your path.

- Make sure the MAYA_LOCATION environment variable is set to your Maya85 folder.

- Run TDM with that command line: DOOM3.exe +set fs_game darkmod

Having technical difficulties....

(Vista takes 10 minutes to uninstall the programs, then at the very end, when it says "removing back up files", the progress bar fucking reverses direction!, goes all the way back, the program ends, and Maya is still there in the programs list and totally usable.... wtf)

Now im using "revo uninstaller" from the internet, which is probably hacking into my bank account as we speak, but as least its searching the registry and files for left-overs...

WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't even ask me to point to the Maya folder anymore. This time i made the MAYA_LOCATION variable, but named it MAYA_PATH on accident, after changing it to LOCATION, it all went without a hitch.

Let's see if I can get hold of Maya 2008 and Maya 2010 - I guess I can compile an exporter for those too with reasonable effort. The guys at doom3world might find that useful.

Are you using any of these newer versions?

Im not at the moment, the only one i'd be interested in is the one that uses animation layers, which would be 2009. Supposedly (from what i hear from forum posts, which are of course always 100% accurate), there are very few changes in the animation department between 7 and 2009 other than that.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
