No widescreen + can't save

Hi,

So i've got steam doom 3, patched to the latest version. And i've got darkmod 1.01

When i'm trying to install fm, even training mission, i've got message that i will be rebooted, but then i see error that tdmlauncher can't be found. After i restart darkmod, i'm able to install fm, but it create folder in root of my doom3 directory, smth like this

D:\Steam\steamapps\common\doom 3\politics

And still, when i'm playing mission i cant save it. it tells me that save was successful but i can't load, nothing happens.

Another thing is about widescreen support. Well guys, we aren't living under rock, so such

picture starching instead of new image for widescreen resolution (1366x768) is a little bit weird step. Also, "square" videos should be played with saving its original aspect ratio.

There's a good chance that steam may have the doom3 folder completely read-only. Please make sure to check for this - it could cause both of your problems.

I would also recommend renaming the doom3 folder from "doom 3" to "doom3" - you might need to tell Steam you have done this tho. I have never done this with a steam version - but try it and see, it is not always a problem

Not 100% clear what you are having trouble with regarding widescreen, in game is the resolution correct?(i.e when you are playing, not during menu/video)

The joys of modding - so many things out of your control ;)

Nope, all is ok there, tried to set read only and then turn off, no luck.

Steam is not working after such operation. And i don't see any problem in space between doom and 3, we are not in dos years.

In game everything is ok, but in menu everything is stretched, looks cheap.

I'm pretty sure the menu can't be helped until the Doom 3 source is released. All GUIs are fixed at a 3:4 aspect ratio.

Now you could if you were so inclined, edit each GUI by squishing and repositioning all the elements so that when it's stretched back out it appears correct at a 16:9 ratio. However, by doing so you'd reduce the clarity so it's a trade off.

Until I erased the blank in 'Doom 3' I couldn´t even start DarkMod. So, Doom3 seems to miss the DOS-years. ;)

As for widescreen: I play on a widescreen-TV and tested all resolutons (I tested widescreen-patch for Thief1&2 too) but all seems wrong but 4:3. I don´t know why. Even in 4:3 round objects like the wooden wagon-wheel seem not to be completely round, but in 16:9 and 16:10 it seems even more wrong. I have my TV in widescreen-mode. In 16:9 in cuts the borders from top and bottom.

And as I tried the Widescreenpatch for Thief I had a strange morphing-effect like when you increase the FOV. I changed the latter, but this effect was still there.

Installed doom 3 + darkmod on my desktop, and all is ok, same steam version. Copied doom 3 folder to laptop, and same problem, no saves. I don't get it :(

Still no solution? Should he create folder in doom3 root?

D:\Steam\steamapps\common\doom 3\training_mission

It should create a folder in the root :)

However would it be possible to move your doom 3 folder to something like D:\doom3\ ?

Note that there is no space in the folder name.

Doom3 has a lot of quirks on different setups in this regards, quite often it does strange things like not saving/loading or whatever if there are spaces in the path name.

If you could move and rename the folder there, all you would have to do to test it is go into the 'darkmod' folder and run the launcher directly :)

Let us know if this changes anything... or if its not possible (I don't have a steam copy :()

1) Is this Windows 7 or Vista? ...or to put things another way "Have you disabled UAC?"

2) Have you white-listed Doom 3 in your Security Software?

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Ah I should have read the thread again! I had already offered those ideas :)

I still think it's related to being read only.

Could you start a fm in darkmod and try take a screenshot (I think that's F12 by default, check the options but don't try change if the setting wont save)

Then go to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\ doom 3\training_mission, is there a "screenshot" folder in there with your screenshot in it?

If there isn't, I'd suggest going to check the permissions on the entire Steam folder. But I'm quite sure that all of these issues are just being caused by the settings not being saved for whatever reason.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
