Invisible ink?

Yesterday I've got this thought: in TDM is already implemented an invisible ink?

If not it would be nice to have an appearing "void" document/clue but can turn it readable with candle/torch heat!

Task is not so much to see what no one has yet seen but to think what nobody has yet thought about that which everybody see. - E.S.

Aha!

That reminds me there was such a document I suspected of being written in some sort of invisible ink... but at that point I had kind of forgotten how to drop things. So I never really did try water or flames or nothing. I convinced myself that it was just a mistake by the author(s). Where was that? I think I might remember. And I think I might go back and find it again with 1.02 (after verifying its existence in my 1.01 saves).

Thanks, lowenz; I'll let you know... or rather I'm sure someone else will sooner.

This should be possible using a fire response or a custom response of some other kind, eg, use a special potion on the sheet. These can be used to trigger anything so it needs only use a simple script to delete the blank sheet and replace it with another (or possibly change the text it references.)

Precisely, for me too :D

The Thief 2 fan mission; 'Rose Cottage' which is a very interesting and unique fan mission to play, has a torch that imitates uv light, you follow it until you find a creepy doles head and some other things inside a box in a hard to find place... That was a interesting mission indeed :P

That UV light was awesome. So was the ouija board. ohmy.gif

I once had to create an document that was supposed to look weathered / old, so I used a quill to write onto plain paper using lemon juice, and then using a flame the letters slowly appeared in a brown colour. Natural invisible ink.

I guess if this was done in a FM there wouldn't be a way to have the letters slowly fade in as heat was applied, but still, it would be interesting to see in a storyline (you've been given a map and you have to expose the hidden loot location using a candle flame!).

  • 3 weeks later...

I thought there already was invisible ink.. here's why.

In No Honor Among Thieves, 2nd mission, in the sewer at the end of the walkway (where the thieves are), there is a chest with a letter inside. It was blank. I tried holding it over a candle but nothing appeared. Well I'm playing the 3rd mission now, so if it's meant to come to light in the story I will see soon enough. Otherwise was this just a glitch?

I was wondering about that paper. I figured it to be something overlooked and never considered trying to apply anything to it... maybe read it while underwater? Or was it a readable which you could not put into inventory... hmm I forget.

It looked like it was supposed to be readable. In the beginning of mission 1 you can find a letter to thios person.. I took it as this may have been this persons reply mail. It was in inventory. I think it disappeared once you get to mission 3. I think, I'll ask in the NHAT forum.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
