TDM 1.02 broke my mousewheel!11!

so i finally booted up Awaiting the Storm to play it, (first time playing an FM since 1.02) and made a strange discovery. My mousewheel is now dysfunctional. Very odd behavior.

 

Both mwheel up and down are set to scroll up and down weapons. When I have no weapons equipped, neither button works. If I manually select a weapon, I can scroll DOWN through weapons with mwheel down until i get to blackjack, and then the next click will deselect all weapons, and won't recycle from the top. If I manually select any weapon and then use mwheel up, my weapon is unequipped, no matter which one i'm equipped with. When using the TDM main menu to set bindings, both buttons will assign bindings perfectly.

 

I thought maybe this might be an FM specific bug, so I reinstalled Return To The City, and ran it. Exact same behavior. :blink:

 

Any clues on this???? (Outside of TDM the mousewheel functions perfectly)

Ah, this has been caused by the requested change to have inventory items stacked at the top of the category (to have newly acquired keys appear first when browsing through the inventory) - as a consequence weapon items were added in reverse order and this broke the NextWeapon() / PrevWeapon() logic.

 

I've fixed this in my local working copy by adding double protection to make the selection code immune to any order changes. Though I can't commit to SVN right now, the server is down.

So, is there a way one/me could patch this him-/myself with this ominous .patch-file on the Bugtracker-page there or do I have to wait for the update?

 

If you've got the TDM source code from the website, and you know basic C++, you can easy patch the code yourself.

 

Or you can patiently wait for the next update.

Due to my GamePad-use this is really a problem (I´m not playing from a desk, and my keyboard is at the moment on my legs, but while playing this is really uncomfortable so I place it in a vertical line left of me and in almost complete darkness it was really hard for me to find the water arrow last night...) for me so I´ll at least try...

Ähem, I guess I should copy the content of the .patch-file into DarkMod/Inventory/Category.cpp? I haven´t done anything yet. And if so, what then? For now I´ve created a folder for the content of the code in the DarkMod-folder. I know, this won´t do anything.

 

Are you willing to help me out, Mortem? All I know about C++ is that it is all text (not 0´s and 1´s) and with // you can add comments. :rolleyes:

 

If it is a long way so I´ll be patient but if it will be a few steps I would really like to (let you do me) do it. ^_^

 

edit: I just looked into a tutorial for C++ and it is really not my world. They say it is really easy, but I don´t even know C.

 

So if this will cost me more than one day than I´ll step back to be patient. I could try to play without the use of weapons...

I also play with a gamepad (an Xbox 360 controller), without issue - what program are you using to set it up? I use Pinnacle Profiler - so many advanced options, and shifted commands, make more than enough buttons for everything I've found.

Pinnacle scared me away, cause it wants payment. I know, it´s very good and have the walk/run-feature for the analog-sticks. Actually I´m using JoyToKey, that is very simple. I tried much some time ago and really Pinnacle was the best, maybe I look into it again, don´t remember the prize...

I´m right now testing Pinnacle again, or I should say fighting. Is it possible to make combinations on my Pad to emulate a completely different key?

 

for example: Button 5 I want to be the combo key. So, button 6 is for 'next weapon'. I want 'prev weapon' when I press button 5+6. Is that possible?

 

ATM I´m experimenting with press/hold button commands. This is good for my two crouch-heights but I don´t know what to do with the weapon keys. I know the program has a help-file, but as I search for 'shifted' it shows me nothing useful.

 

edit: I found it, this new Quad Shift -thing seems to be the key...

It's a very complex program, and sometimes hard to set up, but I've used it to great effect with Mass Effect 1 and 2, all Thief games, Morrowind and Oblivion, and others. You can basically set up anything to do anything if you learn it enough.

No way man, it's way more comfortable! I can get more "into it" because I don't have to look at the keyboard ever to make sure I'm pressing the right thing, but can sit back and relax and focus on the game, very nice

Yeah, that´s my man! ;) The speed-sensitive Analog-sticks are the best, simply damn good play-feeling. So, thank you KoMaG for 'tipping' me to Pinnacle and now the DarkMod-Team don´t have to bother anymore for the Joystick-support I continually cried for. Instead you guys can now work on releasing the next update. :D

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
