New warning message since TDM 1.02

TDM is now taking quite a bit longer to load to the main menu and when I open the console, a warning is now present which did not used to be. Looks like it may be related to trying to resolve the id master server.

(in blue) Failed to resolve master0: idnet.ua-corp.com:27650

(in red) WARNING: idPort::SendPacket: bad address type NA_BAD - ignored

I'm not certain that is what is causing the delay during game launch, but that error did not exist before 1.02

Interesting. Well, I know it isn't my internet connection and that it has happened every time I have launched TDM since the upgrade.

I'll try firing up regular Doom3 and see if the error exists and if the delay occurs.

Yes, of course the same happens when I launch Doom3. I checked my router and all was fine with it. I tried both auto IP/DNS and static configured on my pc. I even moved the doomkey file and re-entered my CD number, which received the verification from Activision saying it was valid. The old doomkey file has the right number too. Still no change.

I verified that I get no multiplayer games listed in Doom3.

i cant see it either, tryed pinging it and its not there to ping, if its an identification server I should be able to ping it.

ZeniMax who owned id software, their link to the id software site doesn't work anymore either.

Although activision who still sell the game will let you register it via their site.

according to another site that checks net addresses idnet.ua-corp.com disappeared from the internet at midnight may 31st 2010 pst although its registration doesn't run out till 26 jan 2011

Wow, I didn't even realise that Doom 3 was doing secret Internet keychecks.

I think I will block that server altogether, I paid for the game and don't see why I should have it disabled just because some remote server gets screwed up.

Ahhh... TDM 1.02 was released just a couple days before that which first made me think of it.

So this should mean that nobody with Doom3 should be able to access any multiplayer games without either being on a LAN or knowing the server IP to connect to.

I don't really care about that because I never play doom3 online anyway. But this does cause a little, though noticeable, delay when starting doom3/TDM. It's a minor annoyance I know... WoW takes a bit longer to start (with Wine), yet I still have the patience to wait for it to load.

Yeah, that server is for punkbuster checking and game server listing. If the CD key for your game is unverified, then that server will block you from internet games... restricting you to only LAN or single player games. Other servers could possibly be connected to if they were already bookmarked or if typed in manually, but I'm not sure.

the server check is just for multiplayer games, you can still play the single player game, and any single player mod as long as its registered.

the checking server is a hosted virtual server, the real server is zenimax.com.

I suppose when it goes open source the checks can be removed.

For the paranoid (like me) to keep some cyber-squatter from using that site as a CD-Key collector (or worse), I would recommend adding http://idnet.ua-corp.com as loopback in your hosts file.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
