Thanks looks good. I think the lid should be up by default. I know probably in RL it would be down when not in use. Also move the origin of the lid to the correct rotating edge. As a prefab that could also be made into a door so the player can open close it. And the support too.

The front edges of the black keys are white. Is that intended?

It's frightening that this is made of 350 separate components. Probably the black keys at least could be reduced to one brush if it's not a working keyboard. The interior wires could be one transparent texture I think like a spiderweb decal - though only needs to be one-sided.

I´l make one that´s just for show with the keys as one brush and the lit up!, as for the wires!!!! I suk at makeing textures huh.gif but if anyone else can come up with a wire texture I´d be happy to impliment it unsure.gif I hav tryde with diffrent textures for them, but non with a satisfying result!

Looking at what/how the texture should be like! as you can see in this shot, there´s not just wire´s but all so the tuningscrew´s in one end of the wire´s

and I still can´t get the: modesty_screen/black_laquer to display right, in the editor I just get the No Shader texture and in game it looks gray and flat sad.gif as to how I would like, black and shining!

Oh yeah - never thought of that. And yet I always keep my expensive vintage champagne inside my grand piano.

Nielsen74. Can't think what the problem is with the black laquer. It was used on the modesty screen in Heart already released. You don't see it like in the image below? You can paste modesty_screen/black_laquer directly into Surface Inspector or select it from Other materials > modesty_screen/black_laquer in media browser. It doesn't show in Texture browser which only shows stuff from the texture tree.

(Cant see the screen-shot... blocked at work :()

Unless the Specular component isn't strong enough I think the look you want may require a transparent Cube Map?

There's certainly specular as you can see from my screenshot. It's not high gloss but a sheen. It is black lacquer after all. This is about as shiny as you can get without a cube map. I made a cube map dark wood for my dresser prefab but it wasn't ideal. I'll see what I can come up with.

If you don't see this shinyness in the black lacquer then something is very wrong...

I think the look I associate the most with black lacquer in TDM textures is textures like the marble black 001 that I usede for the keys, it´s a deep black and has the right specular, but then it has the white imagine paint in it, that limets it´s use for big surfaces!

It would be good to make two versions - one with light strings for a piano. It's easier to them at the same time than someone add one later. ;)

Remember I'm still backup on this. I won't let this die. But it will just take me far longer to do than someone who is already geared up for texture making and normal and possibly specular making.

Any texture artists wanna help with this old request for a "strings" texture?

Echo.. echo.. echo...

The reward might be the completion of another Nielsen74 mission

I made a lute model and wanted to use the same alpha decal trick for the strings too, and never got it to work properly. It's pretty much the only thing keeping it from being finished too. Is there a tutorial on it somewhere?

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

If I can get the strings working on the cembalo then the same texture hopefully might be used for any stringed instrument. I've put it on my todo list. :)

A blend filter might work just as well since the strings are black, and would be easier to make.

OK, I'll try to look at this today. I'll probably make two versions because I think they can be ultra-tiny images as they tile endlessly.

One will be a black blend filter like Springheel said. This might be a single string 64 x 32 or whatever the minimum is.

The other will be a light colour probably with specular to simulate a wire and have a connector/adjuster/tuner(dunno the right name) at one end. This will likely have around 4 strings so the connectors can be staggered and the strings will need to be as long as is needed for the biggest instrument anyone might make. So this might be 512 x 64? We'll see.

My only concern is the normal for the connectors. I failed completely to make a good normal for my loose straw using Njob. However I did it the normal made the straw black. My tiled straw was fine.

I just did a search and see the last time I posted about that lute was January 2008, almost 2 years before TDM 1.0 was even released. Good lord, it's just been sitting on my HD since then...

Seems like I was just working on it a few months ago.

Guess I never got around to learning about how to get models in-game.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
