DarkRadiant 1.5.0 pre-release sanity check

I'm looking for a few adventurous mappers who are willing to help me testing the next DarkRadiant codebase. I've been doing considerable changes to the UI (user-interface) code, and now that the transition is done I need a few helping hands to find as many UI bugs as possible.

The task is the following: download one of the release packages linked below and systematically check if the UI and Dialogs are still working. It's best if possible testers coordinate their efforts, as there are quite a few dialogs and inspectors available in DR.

This includes:

- All menu options: are these still working, or are some broken or doing nothing?

- All toolbar icons.

- All inspectors and floating tools (light, surface, patch, layers, texture tool, transformation dialog, entity list, etc.)

- All plugins (objectives, S/R, difficulty, conversation, AI head chooser)

- Entity Inspector controls

- XY View and Camera behaviour (mouse clicks all working, for instance?)

- Overall: any crashes

Is there anybody interested?

Note: this package doesn't hold any fixes or new features over the 1.4.0 released last month, so don't apply hoping that your favourite DR bug might be fixed in that release, it isn't. ;)

I can test the linux version. Is there a tag in the svn repository and does it build under linux?

I haven't tested in Linux. I know that OrbWeaver checked in some build fixes in July, but I don't know if they are sufficient for the recent merge.

Will also try building in windows to double check everything is happy :)

Make sure you update the w32deps (and w64deps if you're compiling for x64) too, there have been tons of binary and header updates.

They're in the same update job for me, because I'm terrible forgetful like that ;)

The x64 version linked here seem to have become corrupt, it moans that all the dll's (shaders/skins... etc) are corrupt during the install. Re-downloaded and the same deal again.

Going to try the 32 now...

Edit: and it also complains about being damaged, install doesn't even start. Going to try building a 32bit release now.

Ok, sounds like something got screwed along the process - I was compiling that installer package on a different machine. I'll double-check that.

edit: yes, there's something amiss. I'll re-upload a test package.

I've gone through everything that I usually use and more - elements looked the same or close enough not to nice. Looks like a pretty smooth transition, good job.

However changing between window layouts did manage to get a crash. When loading a map, a larger progress bar pops up, I assume its the sub-bar.

Going to continue messing around later

There is no pre4 version yet, I've been away for almost two weeks so no progress has been made. Are you referring to the crash on shutdown?

Is it reproducible and if yes, does it also occur when you shut down immediately after starting up (i.e. without doing any mapping)?

Yes, and it only happens after I have loaded a map.

Doesn't crash on me: I start DR, load Politics.map and then shut it down. Does it crash on any map for you?

It's possible that my dev version is slightly more stable than yours (pre3), so I could compile another pre-package for you to check.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
