Number of FMs for TDS within the first year of release (availability of first mission) per Shadowdark Keep: 17

Total number of TDS FMs: 29 (Cheap Thief Missions lists 27; output really dropped after the first year)

Current number of FMs for TDM (counting Training, Thief's Den and St. Lucia) per the TDM wiki: 32

Wow.

Wow.

And our first year isn't even over :) Also, did you count NHAT as three missions, or as one?

Counting training, thiefs den and saint lucia is ok, because they are really big missions, and they are redone to work with the latest version, too, so you can still play them.

One mission. There might also be TDS multi-mission packs for all I know (or missions with loading zones), however.

Wow, that's great! I'm not sure there are any missions likely to be completed in the next month, but 32 is a great total for the first year.

This weekend, I was playing TDS instead of working on my map (I know). It struck me how good the normalmaps looked - very clean and very deep. I wonder, did they do it with a normal generator, did they do it in Photoshop or did they go the whole way and make them based on 3d models.

Playing a long stretch of the game at once, it is pretty obvious how much of it is made of cloned models. They used something like three or four towers, a variation of about three gables and one arch through the city, doorways are almost all identical etc. A downside of static meshes. But there are still those flashes of absolute brilliance, like loose boards with light shafts shining through, the ambiance of a random moonlit room, or the entire Overlook Mansion. If the game had TDM's clean mantling mechanic, and more things to mantle on (taller buildings for a start), it would be a joy to explore.

Oh, there are only 25 TDS FMs in my archive. Where did you take that 29 number from?

Anything you can do I can do better...I can do anything better than you... ;)

A quick'n'dirty rough approximation. Just because it's on TDM doesn't instantly make it look and play boring.

Okay let's at least give Thief 2 a fair chance here:

Is this with some sort of high-res texture pack? What else did you change, I see the horrible color banding is gone?

No it's just vanilla Thief 2, it's amazing what the community has done with the .exe file for thief and thief 2, just simply amazing.

Erm, either it is vanilla Thief, or "the community has done something with it" :)

Edit: Although I have no idea what they have done with it. Hacked the resolution/colors?

You've never heard of DDFix? Oh I meant Vanilla Thief as in the artistic assets have not changed, and they haven't.

DDFix: http://www.ttlg.com/...ad.php?t=121449

DDFix is a patch (created by TimeSlip and updated by SIO2) to allow Dark Engine games to run properly on modern hardware. It fixes the numerous problems introduced in modern graphics card drivers, as well as enabling 32-bit rendering to increase visual quality beyond even the original game. It also fixes fog in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

It's great I have Thief 2 running at 1920x1200 with 8xAA with SLi turned on, on my Quad core machine. No issues.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

heard of it but couldn't remember it. I haven't installed Thief since 10 years maybe longer (I have no windows since that time, either, except lately some virtual boxes for work stuff)

Well now, that makes sense. No Thief for you? 10 years? That's a long time.

Well, yeah, it doesn(didnt?) run well under Linux, and since I joind TDM my free time did shrink to 0 - I haven't even played most of the TDM missions :)

But after the move the Thief game boxes are still prominently displayed on the top shelf behind glass here :)

It has been in there since 1.3.11.4, sometimes you need to adjust for each FM individually.

It can really enhance the experience, here are two screens taken in the Epilogue of the Bathory campgain (which looks beautiful, whether you use bloom or not):

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
