St Albans Cathedral [updated] version 1.6



"..After most of my gear got snatched during a Watch raid... I've been forced to hit the streets and lower mysef by picking pockets to survive. But my luck was about to change, last night I was approached by a hooded individual with a proposition... The Builders of St. Alban's Cathedral in the Old Quarter had recently unearthed a discovery that he wanted me to recover..."

Known issues:-
# This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map, but the performance has been tweaked compared to the previous version..
# On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower and that any and all background apps are closed.

Thanks for re-releasing/optimizing this great mission. I just have one simple problem though. I couldn't for the life of me fit in the manhole near the start. I tried jumping up and down on it like an idiot, crouching, pacing back and fourth, you name it.

(I never remember to do the patented "lowenz style" beat an AI through a mattress trick... )

I think that the AI \ Mattress issue is a mod issue in general so I think Biker is off the hook for that...

The sky texture issue is likely due to the ambient baking method and it's lack of available format precision. Biker is (again?), not at fault.

HUD Layout may be a mod issue as well.

The ability to get inside the hammer may be due to the presumption that nobody could get there and therefore it would be safe to set as nonsolid to save on performance...

Can anyone running linux properly dmap this mission?
I normally have to dmap nearly every mission released because I nearly always end up with an AAS32 out of date error (or AAS48 or AASrat, or whichever).
I did not try to run the mission yet (I might not even get any AAS error), but I did dmap anyway to save time.
I unpacked this mission and put the otc.map file into ~/.doom3/darkmod/maps/otc/ and I ran 'dmap otc/otc'... the same procedure as I have done several times with other FMs. The dmap process runs like normal and when done it says it's writing the various files... no errors and says 'done' after writing the files.
Yet there are no files written to the directory. I have no .aas32, .proc, or .cm files written like normal. I tried three different times, made sure that directory permissions were ok... still nothing written.
Anyone else ever run into this issue?

My best guess would be that you still have some FM installed and the files went into that directory instead. But other than that, I am clueless, sorry...

I did and it ran just fine.... was puzzled by the behavior of dmap when I was trying that.
Pretty damn awesome mission, by the way!

I did not need to dmap it, but I have had to do so with other FMs so many times, that now I have started the habit of doing dmap on each one I download anyway. That way I don't have to wait for the mission to load, only to get the AAS error, then exit the game, delete mission directories, dmap, build a new .pk4 file, install the mission and load it all over again.

Correct. Thanks for the tip. It had dropped them into '~/.doom3/stac160/maps/otc/', I suppose because I had not removed the '~/.doom3/darkmod/fms/stac160/' directory before running dmap... so the files were written there instead of into the '~/.doom3/darkmod/maps/' path.

Anyway, this FM did run well with no AAS errors, which is rare for me.

I opened the map in DR to try to find it too after having the same trouble. No luck, the referenced entity for that chest, MetalChestBody_5, did not exist in the entity list. The 'used_by' entity which it referred to is named 'vault_chest'.
That chest contains one hammer/gear gold statue worth 250. But I think it only becomes frobable when the chest is opened because I tried using 'noclip' to enter the chest and grab it, but I could not frob it.

I also noticed that the AI patrolling that area

near that vault kept sitting down at the wrong path_corner... making him sit on air in the hallway, near the door to the tomb. That path_corner is set to direct him into the next room, to his original path, where there is a chair for him to sit upon.

First off have to say I enjoyed this version also. There's just so many places to go, so many places to see . I liked the new AI's that added to the level of difficulty. I liked the reno on the

Smugglers Cove.

I had no trouble blackjacking anyone but I did have a few issues happen.

1. I had to noclip the purse in the tower as I couldn't seem to get close enough to it.
2.I had to noclip through the window in the loft house - just couldn't seem to climb through.
3. The Smugglers Cove. I went through this area twice - once was just doing it and the 2nd I reloaded to see if the same things would happen. Both times I got stuck in the waterfall and had to noclip to get out (grabbed the gem at the same time). I then went down to the water to go get the big gem in the middle. While swimming over there the first time, I thought an electric fence was put up around it as something hurt me and sent me flying back in the water . This gave me 32 in damage . So reloaded to redo it and see if the same thing happened again. I couldn't recreate the "shock". Also both times I had to noclip to get the gem.

I ended up finishing a chest short on the loot. Oh well. Thanks again Bikerdude for all your hard work.
