Favorite TDM Character?

I seem to recall a few threads like this on TTLG regarding Thief, so I figured we could have one here. Mine is definitely the thug. I just like the way he talks and his attitude, especially his idle barks and the things he says when he attacks me!

What is yours and why?

You're not really asking about specific characters as the character types. Anyway I think whichever voiceset has "horse piss" in it is the winner for me, esp when combined with the chubby head (don't know how else to describe it) and as a slob city watch. That's the set up I had for one of my guards.

As for specific characters in FMs, the first one to make an impression on me was the bishop in St. Lucia's Tears. And I liked the poor gay pirate Harlan in my own FM unfairly drawn into the whole sordid story. If I could ever made good on the campaign I scripted, I like the player-character I wrote for it, just because his backstory places him so well in between all the factions around him, he could work with any one of them as well as the other, which makes him so valuable and suspicious at the same time.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

"I'm gonna stuff your mouth with your own filth!"

Yep, the thug is the best vocal imho, there is no question about it. Well written and excellent acting.

Now if Mortem would make a full vocal set for the Benny character we saw in his video, that would be awesome.

I also liked the other character there too.

Moar high quality vocals!

I liked Archbishop Duchane Lavonte (sp?) from NHAAT; a powerful man even in his absence. There is also Lord Edridge from Heart of Lone Salvation, another complex, powerful antagonist. I we are talking about generic NPCs, I am a fan of "I piss where I wanna piss" guy. B)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Well, been meaning to find a way to drop this negativity, so I'll take this opportunity to answer the opposite of the question.

The Revenants are my least favorite. They have the personality of irritated and irritating cats suffering irritable bowel syndrome.

And this is too bad because, even more than Benny, I think the best, most memorable, most quintessential voice in all of Thiefdom are the classic phrases (and reading): Join us... join us, now!

As for favorites, can't say as yet.

Yeah - need to come back to this thread in a few years time when there might be more established characters. I think these are more likely to come out of FMs with strong stories, conversations, cut scenes, and video briefings and debriefings - especially mini-campaigns like grayman's William Steele.

Compare Karras who hardly appeared in T2 but his distinctive voice and strong story etc made him unforgettable. Similarly Viktoria who I don't think ever appeared except as giggles and in briefings. The Trickster only appeared at the end.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
