A Campaign for The Dark Mod

We are pleased to announce that we are working on The Crucible of Omens, a full-length campaign for The Dark Mod, the moody Doom 3-based stealth game by Broken Glass Studios. Playing as the thief and adventurer John Welland Hadley, you will embark on a quest to find a powerful artifact inherited from a shadowy past. You journey will take you throughout The Dark Mod universe, discovering new and exotic locations and meeting new and interesting factions and characters. The Crucible of Omens spans multiple large missions and is being worked on by many well-known TDM mappers and team members.

Features include:
  • A wealth of different environments from the smoke-darkened city of Bridgeport to the icy northlands, from opulent mansions to the cobwebbed depths of forgotten catacombs.
  • Gameplay centred on stealth, the pursuit of in-game clues and open-ended exploration, utilising the technical possibilities of The Dark Mod to create a complex, interactive game world.
  • New opponents and characters. What drives the pirates of Wrecker's Reach? Who are the mysterious Urielites? And what lurks in the mind of Lord Blackstone?
  • AI conversations and player character comments.
  • A unique story experienced through in-game actions, animated briefings and dynamic objectives.
No official release date has been set; updates will continue as the campaign development progresses. Be sure to keep an eye out for future updates.

How can I help with the project?
We are currently looking for skilled individuals to help contribute to the project in the following areas:
  • artist and animator (cutscenes and in-game animations)
  • modeller (campaign-specific models)
  • mapper (scripting, bugfixes, testing)
  • voice actors (various)
  • music composers

Main mappers: Angua, Bikerdude, Dram, Fidcal, Greebo, Jdude, Melan

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

How great it is to see such talented FMAs joining forces to creat something epic. A really good campaign is just what TDM needs. I was wondering why Melan has been somewhat quiet recently. Glad to see his talents are been put to excellent use.

Just so we are clear the officialness of the campaign is still being discussed within the team. However whether or not it is official will not effect it's quality.

regardless of official classification, I think to many minds, this will end up being "The" Dark Mod Campaign. No harm in that, methinks.

edit: This also explains the black hole that has enveloped several WIP missions that people have been waiting on, including yours, jdude :D

Uuh mama!

These are excellent news!

I will immediately start mapping the next Thomas Porter mission. My aim is to keep people entertained while the campaign mapping eats the majority of our top mappers' time. Consider it also as a big thank you for the people seeing the trouble of making a TDM campaign true.

If you see anything in my existing maps that might fit or help the campaign process, please feel free to grab what you need. I might mash up some general use prefabs as well.

A new Sotha mission too!

That's it! I'm completely overwhelmed.

No more excitement for me or my Doctor will be calling.

Very cool. I don't really want to touch anything else until I release at least one of my missions but I could do some testing when you need it.

Edit: And I don't mean beta testing. If you want some early feedback on the maps, in whatever state they are I would do that.

Yes, Melan just posted it on my behalf (I was too sick to sit at the PC). I sent a PM to INtense and Henley (Moddb admins) to request that the article be authorized early. If not, usually it would happen around Midnight EST so we'd get at least 1 day (hopefully).

That's sexy. I'm contacting someone who may be able to crank out some music for this (and all missions).

The entire project has existed for about a year. However some of the maps have been in development dating back four years.

What kinds of vocals do you need? Stupid guard? Smart guard? General townsfolk?
