Fan Mission: Return to the City v3 for TDM 1.08 (12/11/2012)

Notes:

Updated the mission for 1.08 - extra Ai in certain locations so difficulty will be increased a tad, a couple of small bonus locations but be warned they are not easy, more variation in the sounds and some textures and have tweaked the perf again.

A few weeks

You will need to update to 1.08 to play this, duh.. :-)

Some of the models in RTTCv2 had black textures in 1.08. And I added the updated package to the Missions page via dropbox:

Yeah its a minor bug in 1.08, where if you have an entity that has the skin arg but no skin specified you will get a black model. And thanks, I have added it to the list of mirrors, updated the official mirrors and updated the mission page on the website.

Wee means "tiny" in English. The reason it gets used for piss is because it's a term you'd use for the little parts of little boys, like when a mother is talking to or about her young kid (their little wee wees) and then the stuff that comes out of them (wee). It sounds cute for kids or something. Now with that pleasant image in all our minds ... yeah, it means "small".

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

I think the description text wasn't upgraded. :)

 

The mirrors have all been updated so if you delete the mission and re-download it you should have the latest version.

Inside the pack itself. I think this in the darkmod.txt

 

If it's not there already you should also include the:

 

Required TDM Version: 1.08

 

line.

Could you please file a bug report? That sounds like the engine should handle empty skin args better. (Or is the arg in question "-"?)

 

Btw, the release date of the mission on the admin interface should better reflect the old (original) release date, not the one of the update (we'd better have a second field for "last updated"). Right now the original date is lost ...

 

Is the mission now already fixed? If so, I'd mirror it on swift-mazes.com, too.

 

Edit: Why not localize/prepare the mission for translation, either? Another lost opportunity for the international players :(

  4. Ah yes, but the only we will have with this is all the custome spacing and editing that Melan did. I will check back with him before I look into doing this.

Slight glitch in the latest version

in the passage to the basement I couldn't frob the goblet or the basement note without using noclip. I managed the bottle but not the other two

 

another one which may have been me

when I dropped the explosive in the vat the first time it sank to the bottom or vanished either way I couldn't frob it. A second try worked fine

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
