Inn Business

It's business, at an inn, over three nights.

Update 1.48 uploaded March 8th, 2014, one change: patches key rarely not being frobable in one of its possible spots

Big thanks to my beta testers: Airship Ballet, Kyyrma and AluminumHaste!
Development supporters of note: Sotha, Springheel and Obsttorte. Also thanks Sotha, for urinating in my mission. ;-)
And thanks Kyyrma for the title screen!
My appreciation to all forum/wiki contributors, without whom, this wouldn't exist.
Thanks to positive commenters on my previous mission too, extra motivation helps! :-)

Note this uses campaign features, what you use the first night, impacts subsequent nights. And to quote a tester, "...the level is maybe best experienced in more than one sitting". If you do pause between nights, please be sure to save, you can't begin partway through effectively. (If you accidentally start a night you already completed, just fail the kill objective to switch to another night.)

If your frame rates are too low facing the cemetery, please reduce your "Object Details LOD" setting.
It was designed with "AI Vision" set to "Forgiving", to be able to sneak through with minimal reactions, if you want more/less, adjust your settings accordingly.
There are several random, conditional aspects, and ways of going about things, so others might have slightly different experiences. Post here if you discover hidden objectives for extra points!
My condolences to loot completionists, I made a bit on the third night hard, you've got your challenge cut out for you! Speaking of which, there's a TDM bug that mission complete totals too high, here are the real amounts per night: 2026/970/202.
Oh, there is something that in the U.S. would be rated PG, in case you play with kids in earshot.
I hope you enjoy playing it, feel free to let me know you did, and I'm glad to respond to inquiries (like how stuff was done, nothing was scripted). (Note which night you are referring to if it's something specific.)
(Please remember spoiler tags to not expose things meant to be discovered by playing.) Like so:
secrets
Developed for TDM 2.01.

PS: Thiefette, good news, no spiders! Springheel, if you find an optional objective you can skip...you might find it immersion breaking. Others, no undead! There are a couple other interactive critters though. :-)

Edit note: Some posts below were from users of an unreleased version of TDM 2.02 which broke several things, they do not reflect regular game-play.

Oh man what an ugly title screen. Who'd you commission that from, a 12 year old? Gosh, standards are slipping.

Really fun and innovative, and quite the time-sink as a result. Hope people enjoy playing it as much as I did, especially as it's improved since.

Yeesh, I'd love to "like" the compliment, but not endorsing teasing about Kyyrma's title screen, it was way outvoted compared to mine too! ;p

Thanks all!

Obviously there's something wrong with people's tastes.

Hm? Teasing? I don't know what you mean.

Hmm, this didn't come up in beta testing. I'm on the first night in the inn keepers room, and randomly I'll get this error:

Attached File  innbiz__1__2014-03-03_12.38.36.jpg   129.41KB   66 downloads

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

No, it didn't, and nothing has changed with that stuff since before beta test. I just ran through where that's used, having downloaded it from the installer myself without troubles.

But given that message, I'd have to say ouch!

First thought would be to delete/download again. Second thought would be we'd have to ask Sotha, but I don't see any file that could be missing related to that in his .zip unfortunately.

Anyone else seeing that message?

Edit: Turns out that was a pre-release bug of TDM 2.02.

Whelp, I just removed everything here, downloaded from the installer fresh, and ran through where that's used twice with no problems. (And it's still happily going in the background with timescale 2.)

Sorry, I learn more from posts than polls! (But vote for egg salad personally.)

In terms of the error, I'm guessing maybe a RAM issue or something like that locally? Wait, _56...does that mean there are 55 previous ones?!?? Somebody get something stuck in his fly?

Talking of polls, can you add the usual 3 questions with 5 options jobbie when you get a minute.

Congrats on the release, and for giving me credits, although I completely forgot why :P (really, I can't remember)

It's good to see that since we've got standalone the number of FM authors seems to increase.

Will play this mission the next days as my download rate has expired today (Thank you new thiaf  )
FM's: Builder Roads, Old Habits, Old Habits Rebuild
WIP's: Several. Although after playing Thief 4 I really wanna make a city mission.
Mapping and Scripting: Apples and Peaches
Sculptris Models and Tutorials: Obsttortes Models
My wiki articles: Obstipedia
Let's Map TDM YouTube playlist: ObstlerTube
Texture Blending in DR: DR ASE Blend Exporter

End of shameless self promotion.

Well you see, there was that vote to determine whose was the best loading screen, the winner of which would be used for the FM. Kyyrma rigged the vote, obviously, by buying votes from people on the forums, and my masterpiece was barely noticed amidst the onslaught of illegitimate votes. I wouldn't trust him if I were you.

The title screen is cool!

Yes it is! :-) Blame the occupant for that effect.

One thing I thought was most unfair...

My condolences on using varied skins, I get tired of knowing from a distance in other FMs if I should bother even entering the room or heading toward that wine rack, preferring to mix things up a bit and bring back the exploration/unknown. I'm surprised more mappers don't use the various skins provided.

However, I do compensate by not having most things highlight, so in these cases only the valuable things pop out at you. I'm not a fan of needle in the haystack either.

Honestly I don't recall the specific thing either, I'd have to poke through forum posts over the past three months, heh! But there was something specifically tricky, and took some orchestration, one of those, "and if that doesn't work, we can script it" type of things. ;-)

Thanks for the positive vibes all, I hope it exceeds anticipations.

Now don't be a sore loser Merry, I'll make sure to send you a signed hard-copy so you can hang it on your wall ;)

And once more congrats on the release RJ! I'm glad I could help test this mission despite being a bit unreliable due to work. Funny thing, I was playing the review copy of Thiaf at the time. Every time I found the time to do some testing on your map, I was reminded by how much more I enjoy the Thief/TDM flair of stealth.

It's a great FM with an original twist to it. Highly recommended!
