Cannot Launch TDM

Hi all...just downloaded the most up to date version and I get the below error message...any advice? Thanks:

Are you trying to run it from your desktop? That's probably not a good idea.

How did you install it the first time? Did you use tdm_update.exe, or a torrent?

 

If the former, you don't have to do a fresh install, just copy everything from your darkmod folder to another location and run tdm_update.exe again. If it was a torrent I'm not 100% sure that will work, but you can try it.

Thank you springheel. I installed it the first time from the updater.exe, not a torrent. I will attempt what you posted above when I get back to my gaming rig tonight. Have been looking forward to playing this for a long time, and feel so close...yet so far :)

OK I placed the all the game files in a new folder in Programs x86, then ran the updater which got me one updated file. Then I went to launch and got the below:

make this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\DarkMod write able to, for yourself via the security tab in directory properties. the game can't write the gamex86.dll file needed to run the game to the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\DarkMod.

Don't put it in program files, you're just asking for trouble. Move it back to the root, so C:\Darkmod.

 

This is what's happening because it's in program files:

 

copy gamex86.dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\DarkMod\gamex86.dll

could not create destination file

WARNING:gamex86 - Update of file modification time failed. This may cause issues following a TDM update.

ERROR:DLL extraction to darkmod path failed

 

You could try running thedarkmod.exe as Administrator, but don't bother, just move it. Then try again and please post back.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!
