After mission report: is 'stealth' a low=good scoring system?

That's correct.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Yes, it's additive. Zero is perfect; higher is doing worse.

It used to be subtractive, where you start with 10, and some wanted 100, and it counts down. But the problem with that is that too often the score just went down to zero and stopped. And then it gives you no information. But an additive one will give you information forever, no matter how you do.

The other issue was that different FMs need different scales. Some FMs have only 2 AI, so counting down from 10 makes sense. Others may have 50, where starting from 100 makes sense. So a system counting-down will always differ depending on the FM size.

But with a system that starts from "0" and counts up, then it's like golf as you say, and different FMs can have different "par" values, where small FMs maybe 15 is an ok score, but for very big ones, maybe 40 or 50 is still a decent score. So the same counting system can be used for different FMs whatever their size.

So that's why we switched to the golf style of scoring.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Okay thanks. It makes sense to do it that way. But perhaps it might be a good idea to mention on the score report screen somewhere that that's how it works. A simple one line that says "The lower the score the better. A perfect score is 0." on the screen would be helpful.

I actually tried to fit something like "(Zero is perfect)" after the score, but it didn't fit, and then I didn't know where to put it. Yeah, maybe somewhere on the details page would be good. I agree it's a good idea to clarify it.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
