God damnit that sucks!

Usually I don't think much of a celebrities death but this just hits really hard.

I just saw this myself. Very sad.

So many wonderful memories of this guy, and to think we won't hear from him again. He has four movies still in post production, so at least there's that.

And we just lost Jonathan Winters last year. They were like father and son.

Yeah it feels like losing a family member even though I have never met him. I grew up watching all of his movies and it just seems so weird that now he is gone.

It goes without saying but depression is a horrible thing and all the fame and money in the world can't buy happiness.

I honestly can't put into words what it was but I always felt like there was something mellon collie about him. Sometimes when I was watching him in a movie it felt like he was trying create the laughter and happiness that was absent in his own life. When i found out he commited suicide I wasn't very suprised.

Robin Williams will probably be remembered for being a comedian but it's his serious acting that I will have the fondest memories. Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting and One Hour Photo were amazing movies and largely due to Robins performance.

This just after Rik Mayall is very sad. Two people who brought lots of happiness and laughter to me in my younger years.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one. You could see it in his eyes. Gotta be tough to maintain an image of beaming joyfulness and playfulness when you're actually hurting inside.

Yes, he was very good in what he was doing, RIP. And all the other people that have died at that day.

There is something cruel in a comedian committing suicide because of depression.

Like they gave all their laughs to others and had none left for themselves.

Depression is surprisingly common among comedians. Or maybe not even 'surprisingly'?

Rest in Peace.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Rest in peace.

You give laughs to others hoping for love. But love isn't earnable. Respect, admiration, and maybe care are, but NOT love.

It's always the same old story.

"I heard a joke once: man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, 'Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up.' Man bursts into tears. Says, 'But doctor... I am Pagliacci.' Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."

Hasn't everybody contemplated suicide at some point in their life? It takes guts to actually go through with it though. I wonder what his reasons were; why he was depressed. Did he leave a note?

I'm on the "not me" side of the fence. Having battled cancer for 8 years and done everything I could to stay alive, I can't see throwing that all away.

But I've never suffered from bipolar disorder or manic depression, and never had a drug or alcohol problem. I've been lucky in that sense. It's amazing that any of us are here, given all the things that can go wrong. I'm sure Williams held on for as long as he could.

I gave my opinion on RW in the TTLG thread. Sad news indeed.

If we're opening the door to our own demons, I have to say I love life an awful lot, so it's been inconceivable to me too. I've felt manic before, but never really the depression swing, so I don't know how it's supposed to work. I might want to bail on life and just leave the country or something, but I cling to being alive. I love reading & writing books, or making & playing games... There's so much I want to do, I worry about getting it all in as it is.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Suicide is very unconsiderate of you, especially towards your parents and other people close to you.

It is sort of the pinnacle of selfishness, kinda... Your final escape from yourself, for yourself. Because you are too lazy, weak or hopeless to persevere forwards, you throw away everything you and all the people around you invested in you.

Aye. When you are underwater you do not see your surroundings clearly. It is all about your struggles. When you fight your way back to the surface, you can see how nice everyhting is. You would miss all that if you just gave up and stayed in the murky depths forever.

I don't know much, but this I do.... and I am not much of a diver.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
