Load Prefab problem

Hey All,

 

I'm trying to load a prefab for a skybox (tdm_sky_starry1) from tdm_prefabs01.pk4 but I get an error in DR, which says:

 

Could not determine map format of file G:\Downloads\Games\The Dark Mod\tdm_prefabs01.pk4. After the error

a tool tip pops up in the prefab load menu showing the filename and path with Unknown at far right of tool tip.

 

It seems like DR doesn't know what the file format is, but that's absurd since it loads all the resources from them,

and I know it's a winrar style format.

 

Would love some help to learn how to fix this.

Just noticed I have a "Warn Status" which confuses me since I've only been back here for 3 days and have asked 2 normal questions lol

 

Originally I was a betatester and wanted to do levels, but never had time to do anything, so I withdrew from it. Don't understand the warn status lol.

Everyone has a warn status. If you click it and there's no warn log then you are fine...

 

As for prefab loading, it looks like you are trying to load a map. Please post the steps you are using in the GUI.

I'm doing Fidcals A-Z in mapping, so I'm going through it to get the basics down from go to whoa. I noticed the note about the update

since TDM 1.0 and unpacked it but couldn't find the prefab skybox he mentions in any of the folders in the prefab pk4 file.

 

Sky

 

To add the default sky is fairly simple because we shall be using a ready made prefab. A prefab is part of a map saved separately so the whole thing can be imported into another map. Any selection, single or multiple, can be saved as a prefab via the File menu. It can then be imported into another map as a selection and dragged where needed.

Other skies are possible but need more work so we'll stick with what is easy...

Added note: The following describes a sky with moving clouds etc but if your FM has performance problems out of doors then consider one of the static skies which look almost as good and do not need the skybox prefab.

  • Set Texture Lock ON
  • (Note that in Dark Mod Release 1 the prefabs are in prefab.pk4 which is a zip file. Rename its suffix to zip and extract it into the darkmod folder.)
  • RMB menu in grid view and select Insert Prefab OR use File Menu > Load Prefab*
  • Select tdm_sky_starry1.pfb

OK, the steps basically say that you need to extract the pfb files from the pk4 so that answers that.

I suppose a tracker to allow Dark Radiant to natively parse pk4's for pfb files would be cool.

No, it doesn't answer it, because as I said, I did unpack it but the tdm_sky_starry1.pfb file is not in any of the

folders within the tdm_prefab01.pk4 pack. So how do I load this tdm_sky_starry1.pfb or some other nice skybox.

 

Back in Quake3 days you just textures the sky with a skybox texture and it gave you a working skybox, but this

just creates leaks through the brushwork in TDM.

This problem still isn't fixed, and it seems people think it is. I really would like to find where to find this file. I've gone through

the entire prefab01.pk4 but it isn't in there.

Ok this is now solved, instead of being in skyboxes, it was in nature. lol

I don't know why this is, but all newbies will be asking this same question sooner or later. I wish someone could fix this. :ph34r:

Yeh they are in Nature within the file tdm_prefabs01.pk4, look under nature, and all the skyboxes are there :) Looks great

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?       I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

      Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
