Problem with scroll in readable editor?

Recommended Posts

I am currently working on readables. I'm trying to use scrolls, both mobile and immobile. The only way I can get it to work is to select sheet paper as my gui choice in the editor. If I try to use a scroll gui, it does not work. Is this a known problem (bug), or am I missing something? :o When using sheet paper gui, when reading the scroll, it looks of course like a sheet of paper. I was wanting it to look like a scroll. It does however look like a scroll in the inventory view. (because of model used of course)

Please shed some light on these newbie eyes... :P

@STiFU

1. I choose Entity, readables, moveable_scroll.

2. Place it on the desk surface, then open readable editor.

3. Give it Inv. Name (NOTICE) as well as xd name. One page, etc.

4. under gui name, open folder for choices and open scroll option, then choose any font style.

5.type title and body text.

6. Save and close.

7. dmap

8. frob scroll (it is picked up, but when you try to read(enter) it flashes red. Then you can't drop it or anything. You have to exit game.

If I do the same as above, but leave the default gui (sheet paper), and just choose font from sheet paper, It works. As you read it looks like a sheet of paper, but the inv view is a scroll.

If this doesn't make sense, let me know. I am at work right now. I can do whatever when I get home tonight.

Thanks

@ Moonbo That might get me unstuck with the current readable, but it won't help with the overall problem. Thanks.

I've tried using reloadxdata in the console, and it doesn't work. You still have to exit.

@STiFU Never mind. I started a mini map with just a table, and put some scrolls on it; and they work. Don't know what is going on in my mission. Will delete and try again. Don't get it.

Thanks anyhow, and sorry for the bother.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
